Summary:

As Director of Estimating of ICT Industrial, you will report directly to the Vice President of Industrial.

Your primary responsibility involves the accurate and efficient preparation of estimates and bid proposals for a range of industrial construction projects across North America.

These projects predominantly focus on general contracting with a special emphasis on structural, piping, and mechanical aspects. Your role is pivotal in ensuring the successful execution and competitiveness of our bids in these disciplines.


Job Duties:


  • Prepare intricate multidisciplinary estimates and proposal documents for diverse industrial construction projects across North America.
  • Independently determine costs for labor, equipment, and materials across various work scopes from first principles.
  • Lead and manage a team of estimators in performing takeoffs, crafting level 1 and 2 schedules, coordinating subcontractors, and other proposalrelated tasks.
  • Conduct onsite project visits, including bid meetings and job walkdowns.
  • Facilitate estimate turnover meetings postproposal success, briefing Project Managers on project scope, schedule, and estimate exclusions.
  • Develop and update labor rate databases for both union and nonunion work in North America.
  • Maintain and adjust labor productivity factors for North American projects, with a focus on structural, piping, and mechanical disciplines.
  • Analyze cost and manhour data from active and completed projects to refine future labor cost and productivity assumptions.
  • Support Project Managers in budget adjustments, change orders, and claims documentation for ongoing projects.
  • Evaluate local subcontractors for capability, capacity, and productivity.
  • Ensure adequate and compliant subcontractor quotes through key meetings for effective cost comparison.
  • Review contract documents, assess project risks, and allocate appropriate contingency in estimates.
  • Prepare construction execution plans during the estimation phase.
  • Ensure that work method statements and execution plans align with estimate inclusions throughout project phases.
  • Manage and update estimating spreadsheets, maintaining controls for accuracy.
  • Utilize estimating software for efficiency in repetitive tasks.
  • Engage in postproject analysis to verify and improve estimating assumptions.
  • Collaborate with the procurement department for vendor quotations on materials, equipment, and services.
  • Prepare estimation status reports for backlog and revenue forecasting.
  • Mentor estimators in specific company groups, including Fabrication and Cooling Towers.

Qualifications and Experience:


  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in estimating for general contracting industrial projects, focusing on structural, piping, and mechanical disciplines, for projects up to $100MM USD.
  • Preferably 5 years of experience in leading an estimating team and working with additional stakeholders.
  • Broad understanding of engineering disciplines.
  • Intermediate proficiency in software tools like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Primavera.
  • Ability to interpret detailed information from engineering firms, subcontractors, and vendors for multidisciplinary scopes.
  • Knowledge of ASME Codes for Boiler, Pressure Vessel, & Piping work.
  • Familiarity with Quality and Safety compliance costs.
  • Excellent time management and communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to thrive in a fastpaced environment.
  • Experience in claim preparation is advantageous.
  • An Engineering degree, diploma, or trade experience is beneficial.
  • Experience with estimating software packages is a plus.
