The role of the Crisis Counsellor position will be to provide crisis assessments and short-term interventions to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis until long-term supports can be accessed.


The scope of work and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide immediate response to a mental health crisis, via phone and drop-in.
  • Identity and utilize best practice assessment tools to provide crisis assessment.
  • Provide shortterm, crisis response counselling.
  • Work closely with the Systems Navigator to ensure individuals are connected to needed resources.
  • Work from a culturally competent, strengthsbased framework.
  • Maintain up to date, professionally written case notes, and report writing.
  • Completion of monthly data tracking and outcomes reporting.
  • Work closely with the agency Leadership team to ensure the longevity of the program.

Desired qualifications and skills include:


  • Current certification as a Master Level clinician or Psychiatric Nurse.
  • A minimum of 2 years of direct client experience preferably in the area of mental health, addictions, and/or homelessness.
  • Comfortable and competent in working independently.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License, registration and insurance.
  • A valid Emergency or Standard First Aid certificate.
