  • To this end, the Manager will perform a variety of tasks including setting deadlines, assigning responsibilities, and monitoring and reporting on the progress of the program._

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Planning & DevelopmentPerforming strategic planning, prioritizing and allocating available program resources;

  • Reviewing and evaluating program delivery, making recommendations for and executing changes in operations to ensure achievement of program and conservation goals;
  • Managing the development of new program elements, including researching, compiling and analyzing supporting data.

Stakeholder EngagementLiaising with key partners and stakeholders to maintain positive mutually beneficial relationships;

  • Fostering positive relationships with other organizations and agencies, both nationally and internationally, working in similar fields as necessary, and identifying collaborative opportunities where they exist;
  • Representing Ocean Wise and speaking on behalf of the program to partners, industry, media, NGO community and general public.

Operations

& ReportingLeading the team in the effective delivery and execution of the program in line with the strategy and targets.

  • Developing and managing the implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work standards where applicable for the program;
  • Monitoring and managing or performing day to day operations of the program to ensure that policies and procedures are being followed, that goals and objectives are met, and that projects are being accomplished efficiently and effectively; taking corrective action as necessary;
  • Identifying and implementing opportunities to increase revenue generating activities, including grants and sponsorships that improve performance and delivery of program and PFO goals
  • Overseeing departmental budget and providing regular status updates to superior, noting any variances.
Overseeing financial well-being of the program by analyzing cost effectiveness and exercising cost controls;

  • Performing complex administrative duties requiring oversight, attention to detail and analysis; performing strategic planning and financial analysis, including assisting in preparation of specialized program and project budgets to include staffing and operational needs;
  • Developing systems and maintaining records that provide for the proper evaluation, control and documentation of assigned activities; prepares a variety of written correspondence, reports, procedures and other materials.
  • Collaborating with the Communications and Marketing Departments as well as external sponsors, in order to establish, implement, and evaluate communications and marketing plans that deliver strategic influence on decisions and changes in behaviors.

Provides management, coaching and mentoring to Direct Reports and extended team members and contributes to and fosters the development of the team by:
Leading the team in the effective delivery and execution of the program in line with the strategy and targets, to continually increase the impact of the program, both through increased participation and increased conservation impact

  • Creating an environment conducive to individual development, productivity, and achievement while ensuring open lines of communication;
  • Ensuring that employees are well organized, sufficiently trained or cross trained to perform their responsibilities, developed to their potential and deployed in a manner that permits a cost effective operation;
  • Planning and facilitating one on ones, as well as group debriefs and skill building sessions where appropriate;
  • Providing direction, guidance and support to team members and motivating staff to achieve a high level of performance and productivity;
  • Establishing performance objectives/goals, reviewing progress throughout the year, and completing formal performance reviews for direct reports as required;
  • Coaching and developing direct reports and entire team to achieve strategic growth objectives;
  • Recognizing and rewarding success, and managing poor performance;
  • Developing and obtaining agreement on development plans for all direct reports, recommending training courses and seminars where appropriate;
  • Recruiting, hiring and promoting team members in accordance with standard Ocean Wise policies;
  • Reviewing and approving time and attendance for direct reports prior to established deadlines.
