Position Overview:


Reporting to the Labour Relations Manager, the Labour Relations Advisor will provide knowledge and expertise through the service and programs delivered to the various business divisons.

The Advisor will utilize their senior, professional level experience with collective bargaining, labour market research/impact analysis, grievance management and negotiations to effectively support Finning's competitive advantage.


Building positive and collaborative relationship with Union Business Rep's is a major responsibility of this role, as will Grievance management, and performing research of labour relations issues and make recommendations.


Job Description:


  • Ensuring the terms and conditions of the Collective Agreement are adhered to by internal users.
  • Maintain best practice and knowledge of setting precedent on issues which put the company at risk.
  • Provide sound labour relations advice to HRBP's and front line supervisors with respect to the collective agreements, pertinent legislations and Finning (Canada) policies and procedures to human resource professionals, internal stakeholders, and front line managers.
  • Work with Union Business Rep's on the management labour issues including but not limited to grievance management and addressing day to day inquiries.
  • Management of Labour Relations administration including support for arbitration/mediation, grievance handling, human rights complaints, analytics, and reporting.
  • Work with external legal counsel on complex matter relating to labour relations.
  • Cross functional support to all internal stakeholders.
  • Exceptional time management and prioritization of competing issues.
  • Ambassador to upholding the provisions of the applicable collective agreements and labour relations best practices.
  • Applicable learning and development in the area of labour relations and keeping current to legislative changes.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience

  • Post secondary education in a relevant discipline
  • Minimum of 510 years progressive experience in human resources, coupled with a minimum of 5 years working in an unionized environment including but not limited to: contribute to the collective bargaining prenegotiation preparation research and proposal costing to develop and provide guidance on the strategy and obtain leadership approval on the mandate.
