Additional Details:

New Westminster has an exciting opportunity for a historic interpreter aboard the Samson V Maritime Museum. The Samson V Maritime Museum is an intact, floating steam powered sternwheeler located along the New Westminster Esplanade.

As the tour guide on this vessel you will be greeting visitors and touring them through it, as well as monitoring museum exhibitions and performing general ship upkeep.


What you will do:


  • Interpretive tour and heritage program delivery
  • Museum facility opening and closing.
  • Oversee visitor safety and museum security
  • Assist with the research, development, testing and implementation of heritage programs and tours
  • Clean and maintain Samson V physical plant and exhibitions (i.e. painting, dusting, washing, etc.)
  • Maintain museum statistics and visitation data
  • Other duties as assigned
    What you bring:
  • Excellent communication skills with experience public speaking
  • Excellent customer service skills and guest service oriented
  • Excellent people skills with a positive and upbeat personality
  • An interest in history, maritime history and museum practices
  • Ability to lift and carry objects (<30 lbs), navigate stairways and ladders, and spend long hours on your feet
  • Ability to work cooperatively, as part of a team
  • Experience organizing groups, programs, and services in an educational setting is an asset
  • Familiarity with marine vessels and maritime safety is an asset
  • First aid training is an asset
  • Ability to pass and maintain a satisfactory Police Information Check
