Description

This position focusses on the maintenance and preparation of tooling for production, the adherence and completion of daily maintenance, facility, and equipment installation and/or repair.

May, on occasion, be required to cover Production Lead Hand duties in the absence of the Production Lead Hand.

Ensures form and trim tools are maintained and kept in good repair. Oversees all tool setups to minimize downtimes/maximize uptime.

Training and monitoring production staff on the installation, dial in and/or removal of production tooling and the processes associated with each.

Tooling and Maintenance Technician is to collaborate with the Production Lead Hand to coordinate and receive manpower support in the performance of theses tasks.

Once staff have been "loaned" (assigned), the Tooling and Maintenance Technician assumes the supervision of, and responsibility for, the assigned individual(s) including all adherence to safety.

Execute Preventive Maintenance per the prescribed PM program/schedule. Perform facility maintenance as required.

Assist with training and/or troubleshooting in the thermoforming process. Perform the "Operator" function "as needed". Take and "active leadership role" in prototype development. Other sundry duties as assigned.

Must be willing to work flexible hours outside of shift in case of breakdown. Must be willing to switch shifts on a rotating basis if required.


The intent of this position is to have some overlap with the Lead Hand and Operator positions to create "working teams" to accomplish minimum downtime and maximize quality and output from production.


Primary Accountabilities
Maintenance of tools to ensure they remain "fit for use" as and when required.

Oversee/Execute the changeover process where setups take no more than six (6) hours.

Setup is complete once the sheet is running through the former being "dialed-in" and the first case of the next product is completed.

Immediate response to machine/equipment failure, tooling failure or any unusual interruption to the production flow.

Ensure documentation is maintained on tooling, equipment, and maintenance.

Schedule, perform, train, and oversee daily maintenance and preventive maintenance activities.

Collaborate with the Production Lead Hand for support (manpower assistance) in performance of change over activities. The goal is for the tooling and maintenance tech to oversee, educate, and validate the subordinate staff.

Lead in the development, piloting, and prototyping of new tools and processes.

Oversee staff that are "lent" tp the maintenance department for change over and maintenance activities. This includes training and safe work practices.

Perform advanced troubleshooting in case of production issues as they arise.


Understand and operate basic robot cells as well as the ability to troubleshoot and resolve basic problems that arise during production.

Required Qualifications


Must satisfy management expectations with knowledge and/or experience as follows: demonstrated trouble-shooting/problem solving skills, competent with hand tools and competent with power tools.

Can demonstrate understanding and proper use of fine measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, tape measures, and thermal imaging. Understanding of our internal policies and processes. Successful promotion through the organization based upon merit and demonstrated ability.

Must have or be willing to obtain a working knowledge and understanding of the thermoforming process.

Fluent in English (written and spoken).

Minimum of grade 12 education including successful completion of Algebra 11 and English 12.


Desired Qualifications


Level 1 (first year) or higher qualifications in one or more of the following trades: millwright, power engineering, pipe fitting or automotive mechanic.

Other trades may be considered.
