Compensation Range

Job Summary


The Digital Strategist is responsible for implementing the Arts Instructional Support and Information Technology (Arts ISIT) engagement strategy and related initiatives to create awareness and understanding of products and services delivered for the technological administrative and teaching needs of the Faculty of Arts.


This role will require the individual to translate technical and complex technology information to clear, concise, and engaging content that can be understood by different audiences for a variety of communications platforms to support university-wide efforts in teaching, learning, and administrative innovation.

This includes writing for the monthly newsletter, website, and social media channels for the unit, managing and promoting workshops and events, writing reports, copy-editing technical documentation, and developing visual guides and training videos for Arts ISIT's services.


This role will also support digital content strategy for the continual improvement of existing services and the development of new services that support the teaching and administrative needs of the Faculty of Arts.

The incumbent will work closely with functional teams, leveraging best practices for content strategy, information architecture, and user experience (UX) to ensure that technological solutions align with the needs of Arts units and their users, and align with the identity of the Faculty.

Organizational Status


The Digital Strategist is a member of the Service Strategy and Design team and reports to the Senior Digital Strategist within Arts ISIT.


In supporting the Faculty of Arts, the Digital Strategist interacts directly with the Arts Dean's Office, Heads and Directors, and faculty and staff.

The position works collaboratively with teams within Arts ISIT, Arts Communications, Arts Communications Network, Arts Administrators Group, UBC Brand and Marketing, UBC IT, CTLT, Information Security Office, and other central units, and ensures adherence to Arts and UBC identity guidelines and best practices.

Work Performed

(1) Engagement

  • Supports the Arts ISIT engagement strategy by implementing effective communications and executing initiatives and tactics.
  • Creates awareness of services and shares updates in a timely manner by developing, curating, and editing a wide range of communication materials for the unit's newsletter, website, and social media channels.
  • Writes and edits copy to create consistency in grammar, format, message, tone, and voice while following UBC brand and style guidelines and aligning with Arts Communications' guidelines.
  • Writes, produces, and designs compelling content to meet operational goals and the needs of audiences.
  • Creates reports, presentations, use cases, and other written materials.
  • Translates technical documents, white papers, and complex information into clear and concise communications for various stakeholder audiences, including committees, faculty, staff, and senior leadership.
  • Helps develop visual training guides and videos to support written documentation on technological tools and services.
  • Assesses the effectiveness of established communications plans and makes recommendations for future improvements.
  • Develops, analyzes, and shares communication and marketing metrics with senior managers and project team members.
(2) Content Strategy

  • Works closely with the Senior Digital Strategist to provide content strategy for the creation and continual improvement of Arts ISIT services.
  • Serves on project teams to support content strategy for projects, such as the Arts Website Renewal Program.
