We are currently hiring for an Human Resources Assistant to join our team If you are tech savvy, understand the basic HR principles, ready to dive in and learn, and love to make things more efficient, then this may be the role for you


Primary Purpose
The Human Resources Assistant assists the Director, Human Resources in day-to-day human resources and corporate administration duties.

This is a generalist role which will cover human resources tasks such as recruitment, retention, performance management, employee relations, and termination.

The role will assist in building and maintaining the company HRIS system and complete projects on the side. The Human Resources Assistant will also be the first point of contact for any human resources related inquiries.


Specific Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this position will include, but not be limited to, the following:


Human Resources Duties:


  • Develop and maintain job descriptions and job board postings
  • Assist in all aspects of recruitment activities, including advertising, screening, arranging interviews, reference checks and criminal record checks.
  • Prepare job offers and conduct employee orientation
  • Coordinate with departments to ensure a new employee setup is complete
  • File and maintain employee files and documentation
  • Coordinate the annual employee review and make recommendations for improvements and best practices
  • Keep up to date on legislation changes and understand the implications of the change to the business
  • Maintain an updated Employee Handbook
  • Assist in developing and maintaining companywide human resources policies
  • Assist in developing training programs for managers
  • Assist in proactive recruitment including attendance in career events as may be required
  • Complete stay and exit interviews
  • Coordinate and work with the payroll administrator to ensure HR and payroll are aligned
  • Assist in corporate special events, employee recognition, and other staff social functions and chargebacks
  • Code and process corporate invoices pertaining to HR for payment including chargebacks

Other Responsibilities

  • Assist with special projects and other duties as required
  • Provide vacation coverage for payroll

Qualifications
To be successful as a Human Resources Assistant, an individual must be committed to developing, maintaining and demonstrating the following:

Education and Experience

  • Degree or diploma in a related field, with a preference for a commerce or human resources major.
  • 12 years of related experience in human resources
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal. Fluency in another language an asset.
  • Experience and working knowledge of a HRIS or ATS system an asset
  • Experience with payroll or a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is an asset
  • Understanding of the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Legislation, Worker Compensation Act, and the Privacy Information Protection Act is an asset.
  • An established track record of excellent customer service and team work
