Who We Are


We are the downtown Vancouver branch of Simon Fraser University Library and are pleased to support teaching, research and lifelong learning at Simon Fraser University's Vancouver campus.

We are also open to members of the community.


About the Role


Library assistants at the Belzberg Library help staff, faculty, students and members of the community borrow materials, book computers, connect with other library services, and enjoy our spaces.

You'll spend time having conversations with library users, shelving, circulating books and other materials, and connecting with colleagues.

Ideally, as a library assistant at the Belzberg library you:

  • Graduated from high school.
  • Have experienced and enjoy customer service.
  • Have a familiarity with basic computerized record keeping functions.
  • Are able to organize and shelve library materials.
  • Understand the DTES and its communities.

Qualifications
High school graduation. 6 months related experience. Or an equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study and experience is acceptable.

  • 40 wpm keyboarding skill with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Familiarity with basic computerized record keeping functions.
  • Knowledge of Library of Congress Classification system.
  • A cooperative and courteous manner and an ability to communicate effectively with users and coworkers.
  • Ability to handle routine and repetitive work efficiently while working under pressure.

  • An additional 9% pay in lieu of benefits
  • After 4 consecutive months in the position, pay in lieu of benefits is increased to 16%

Additional Information
The assignment start date is September 6, 2023.

The assignment end date is December 18, 2023.

Please note:
There are 4 to 5 part-time positions available working approximately 10 to 20 hours bi-weekly. Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings.

Priority will be given to qualified registered SFU students who must submit a Fall 2023 class schedule with their cover letter and resume.
