EIPS is recruiting a full-time permanent Spiritual Life Coordinator/Wellness Coach at Strathcona Christian Academy Elementary.


Strathcona Christian Academy Elementary serves approximately 580 students in kindergarten to Grade 6, with 26 teaching staff and 11 support staff.

The school is located in Sherwood Park, AB.


Strathcona Christian Academy Elementary offers an Alternative Christian program with a mission to challenge students, through Christ-centred education, to know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord in order to pursue a life of godly character, personal and academic excellence, and service to others.

Alternative Christian schools within EIPS follow the regular provincial curricula interpreted from an Evangelical Christian Philosophy. A classified staff member is encouraged to bring a Christian viewpoint to issues and topics within their job description.

Applicants should be able to support the teacher in bringing a Christian philosophy to issues and topics that arise in the classroom and the school.

Commencing August 27, 2024

37.5 hours per week (7.5 hours/day)

ROLE
To facilitate the spiritual growth and development of the staff, students and families of SCA Elementary.


RESPONSIBILITIES
To provide spiritual assistance and spiritual counsel for the staff, students and families of SCA Elementary in these capacities:
connect and build relationships with SCA Elementary students, staff and families

serve as a spiritual advisor for staff

serve as a spiritual advisor for SCA families

communicate with the School Counselor for student support

serve as a spiritual advisor for all students at SCA

serve on the Chapel Committee

Prayer

Work towards elevating the role of prayer in the life of SCA Elementary, liaison with the school's Praying Grandparents group

Chapel

Oversee chapels to ensure implementation of grade-appropriate, meaningful all school chapels. This will typically involve sharing a devotional during the chapels. There are approximately 8 chapels per school year.

Devotions

Oversee staff devotions. This includes leading weekly Tuesday morning staff devotions, leading Thursday morning worship, as well as overseeing staff prayer groups.

Missions


To work with the staff and students in each class to support opportunities for missions and service both locally and globally.

assist with class outreach and fundraising projects

develop connections for outreach in the community (collection drives, etc.)

hosting missionary visitors, as needed

Bible Curriculum

To assist staff to provide biblically based resources.

Shepherding

Where possible, support families who are in crisis (i.e., encouragement, flowers, phone calls, etc.).

To develop and direct or assist with extra-curricular activities that enhance the spiritual growth and development of our students, staff and parents.

Staff Remembrances

Will oversee the staff remembrances (i.e., condolences, births, illness, etc.).

Students

Corporate prayer initiatives.

Reporting/Responsibility

Will meet at regular intervals with the SCA Society to give reports. Day-to-day reporting will be to the principal.


REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in biblical studies, Theological Studies, or Pastoral Care or an acceptable combination of education and a minimum of five years of ministry/work-related experience

Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Check

Complete EIPS Confidentiality Declaration

Experience in children's/youth ministry

Strong interpersonal and shepherding skills

Effective communicator

Musical ability preferred


Additional Responsibilities:

Lead staff worship

Assist with event set-up

Attending evening meetings periodically (approximately 8 times per year)

Parent/Teacher Interviews

Meet the Teacher

Christmas Concert

SCA Society meetings (2x per year)

Hosting missionary visitors

Moral education for grade 4-6 boys

Student supervision

Daily student academic engagement (similar to EA duties)

Liaison with external community groups (collection drives)
