The Community and Recreation Facilities Branch is looking for a Recreation Technician


Reporting to the Lead Golf & Sport Programmer, the Program Assistant represents the City of Edmonton and all golf programs including day camps, providing support to the Lead Golf & Sport Programmer, by ensuring the delivery of high quality programs, customer service and equipment maintenance.


The Program Assistant supports staff accountability through the supervision, open communication, guidance/ coaching and demonstrates appropriate documentation and protocol measures.

As well as assists with training, scheduling, time entry/ approval and staff and program evaluations.

  • Provides front line Instruction for registered golf programs/day camps
  • Provides feedback to coordinators and Program Manager about stats and attendance pattern changes
  • Ensures that current service levels are being met: staffing levels, service delivery, spaces booked
  • Responds to customer comments and inquiries, providing excellent customer service and mentoring frontline staff to do the same
  • Identifies service delivery or customer service issues and provides suggestions on corrective actions to supervisor and follows through or follows up as necessary
  • Acts as a safety leader, responsible for knowing all the safety procedures for the golf programs by ensuring constant contact with key players on any changes or updates
  • Mentors Golf Instructors/leaders in developing and maintaining skills that will contribute to an enhanced experience for customers
  • Assists in the creation and implementation of registered programming, in collaboration with team members
  • Responsible for assisting in the training of all new staff as well as the collection/submission of weekly timesheets

Qualifications:


  • High School Diploma
  • Completion of a minimum of one year of a Degree/Diploma in recreation/physical activity/Recreation Administration or related diploma or degree program
  • 3 years of experience working with/leading outdoor recreational programs
  • Ability to demonstrate strong leadership and mentorship skills
  • Standard First Aid and CPR Level C (CPR & First Aid/ AED)
  • Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
  • Experience with Customer Service an asset
  • Interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written with patrons
  • Computer proficiency including experience with Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, Sheets)
  • Experience with RAMS/Intelli database is an asset


  • Valid Alberta Class

  • Valid Alberta B City of Edmonton drivers permit mandatory*will attain once hired


  • Valid Alberta C

  • NCS City of Edmonton drivers permit mandatory* will attain once hired
  • Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position, there may be a cost associated with this requirement
  • Golf knowledge/experience is an asset

_ Up to 1 temporary full-time position for an expected duration of up to 3 months_

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week.

The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time.

Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
