JOB SUMMARY UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF THE IT COORDINATOR OF INFRASTRUCTURE / CYBERSECURITY AND AS PART OF THE ITS TEAM, THE PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY OF AN INDIVIDUAL IN THIS POSITION IS TO SERVE AS A SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR, EXECUTE SPECIALIZED TECHNICAL DUTIES, AND ENSURE THE AVAILABILITY, RELIABILITY, AND SECURITY OF JOHN ABBOTT COLLEGE IT SYSTEMS.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Advise and assist on the selection, evaluation, acquisition, installation and use of appropriate computer software, hardware, backups devices, storage devices, storage area networks (SANs), cloud services.
  • Install, configure, manage and secure all college IT infrastructure including Windows and Linux operating system physical and virtual servers, and virtualization environments.
  • Provide documentation including maintenance plans, standard operating procedures, work instructions, capacity planning, and lifecycle management.
  • Coordinate patch management and maintain critical update compliance across all systems.
  • Administration and management of accounts and access for all staff and students requiring access to college IT services.
  • Administration of end user rights, resource permissions, and access management
  • Develop and maintain reporting tools, scripts and automation procedures where applicable.
  • Coordinate the work of, serve as a point of escalation for, and provide training to ITS technicians as necessary and requested by ITS management.
  • Document all IT service management activities using the college's ITSM ticketing system (i.e. Octopus) for incidents, service calls, repairs, requests, etc.
  • Perform any other related tasks as may be assigned.
  • May be required to work outside of normal working hours.

EDUCATION:


Diploma of college studies (DEC), or equivalent, in an appropriate specialty or a diploma or attestation of studies whose equivalence is recognized by the competent authority.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 4 years related IT technical experience supporting desktop computers or servers, operating systems, networks, and Internet services.
  • English advanced (oral, comprehension and written).
  • French basic (oral and written comprehension).
