The Fred Otto DiscoverE program has been working the last 30 years to grow our programs' reach, and inspire youth to get excited about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

We focus on engineering, and helping demystify youth and parents about what engineering means.

We want to showcase the amazing research, programs, and fields of study within engineering and how they are used in the real-world.

Our mission is to provide fun, interactive engineering experiences to youth.


Position


The Team Lead Operations ensures that the logistics of the Fred Otto DiscoverE program's overall programs through creating and maintaining relationships with internal and external communities/groups, organizing programming on campus as well as outside of the University, purchasing, shipping and organization of materials, and managing the operations and customer service teams.


This role also creates and implements programming and goals that are consistent with the Fred Otto DiscoverE program, the Faculty of Engineering, and the University of Alberta's goals and objectives for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI).


Duties

  • Works to create and ensure smooth logistics and operations with groups and communities outside of the University of Alberta for the Fred Otto DiscoverE program and the programs they wish to run
  • Works to create and ensure smooth logistics and operations within the Fred Otto DiscoverE program office space
  • Oversees the purchasing and organization of materials for all programs yearround
  • Directly supervises 1015 student staff, including coops.
  • Create and oversee volunteer and mentor recruitment, retention, and organization

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Accounting, Education, Engineering or a related field and/or a twoyear diploma with additional years of experience.
  • Knowledge relating to procurement, supply chain management, and/or coordination of large amounts of materials. Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Applications (Gmail, Google Calendar, Documents, Slides, Sheets, and Team Drives) is a requirement.
  • Able to lead a team of student staff as well as aid in the coordination of volunteers and mentors throughout the year in certain capacities.

  • Excellent problem solving skills, including the ability to identify, investigate, analyze, and problem solve issues and discrepancies.
  • Able to learn quickly and adapt in a constantly changing environment

  • Customer serviceoriented and solutionsfocused.
  • Superior attention to detail, time management, prioritization, and followup skills.
