Research Assistants are normally students, in a University of Winnipeg undergraduate program, employed to assist with tasks related to research.

Work is performed within defined guidelines and under supervision of a more senior researcher or faculty member.


Position Overview:


Through this project, you will learn how to use brain imaging (electroencephalography/EEG) on human participants and examine postural control as they perform various cognitive tasks.

As part of this position, you would receive training on EEG, help with participant recruitment, participate in data collections (i.e. set up, EEG preparation, recording data, interacting with young and older adult participants), and learn about EEG data processing.


Duties:


  • Train on the use of electroencephalography (EEG).
  • Help with recruitment of participants.
  • Set up the lab equipment prior to data collections.
  • Participate in data collections (interaction with participants, preparation of the EEG system, 3D scanning, use of software for data recording, etc.).
  • Clean up the lab after data collections.
  • Read articles, tutorials, and handbooks to help learn more about EEG.
  • Learn how to process EEG data and help with data processing.
  • Have the opportunity to assist in knowledge dissemination in the form of presentations or scientific articles.

Qualifications:


  • Undergraduate student in kinesiology, biology, neuroscience, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of excel and/or Matlab would be an asset.

The period of work will be from
June 11, September 30, 2024 and the estimated total hours of work will be
40-200 hours.
