The Position:
The Campus Security Guard is responsible for providing support and security services to the campus buildings and grounds to ensure safety and security for students, staff, parents and visitors.
The Campus Security Guard will ensure the protection of property, persons and information at the School.
Must be proactive in their approach to their duties, primarily by forming and maintaining a strong professional and cordial relationship with the students, staff, parents, and visitors.
As a front-line, essential staff member of the School, the Campus Security Guard will be required to assess emerging or occurring situations, manage them, and notify School leadership where required.
Specific Accountabilities:
The Campus Security Guard is expected to carry out the following duties:
- Monitor security systems including CCTV, access control, intercom and intrusion alarms
- Perform security patrols of the property and buildings
- Investigate and act on any suspicious persons or events on the property
- Keep detailed and accurate reports of the routine and nonroutine events attended to during their shift
- Monitor and control of the parking of vehicles on the property, including traffic control during student pick up and drop off
- Program and issue proximity cards including maintaining the database of all users
- Greet visitors and enforce access control to monitor the occupancy of the building.
- Provide security for on campus events
- Must have the ability to perform CPR, First aid and trained in the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Assist visitors, staff and students with their enquiries and make necessary contacts within the school on their behalf
- Provide occasional assistance to the maintenance staff with setups and takedown of rooms for events including A/V equipment.
- All other duties which may be requested by management
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
- Hold a valid Security License under the Provincial Private Investigators and Security Guards Act
- Must be able to participate in physically interactive selfdefense training
- Experience with MS-Office, database maintenance & security system operation
- Experience in operational security procedures
- Ability to make quick decisions under pressure
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm in crisis situations
- Familiar with the operation of various security devices including but not limited to PTZ cameras, electric strikes, mag locks, proximity cards and readers
- Ability to communicate with stakeholders in person, and via radio and telephone
- Strong communication and problemsolving skills
Physical/Psychological Demands
- Patrolling of the property requiring climbing stairs, entering mechanical rooms and traversing the property in all weather conditions
- Demonstrate ability to use good judgment and make decisions under pressure, which have the potential to impact the safety and wellness of the students and employees
- Ability to combine authority in challenging situations with respectful and cordial relationships with guests to the building.
- Respect professional boundaries in relationship with students and staff.
- Campus Security Guard must be able to perform in high stress situations
- Uphold and ensure a safe and secure workplace for all constituents
- Required to wear security protective gear, including fully arrayed duty belt, and body armor vest
- Occasional lifting and carrying of items up to 50lbs, i.e. tables, furniture etc.
General Requirements
- Team player with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Good communication skills, able to deal directly with staff, students and visitors, interpret requests and translate into action
