Reporting to the General Manager, the Overhead Catenary System (OCS) Superintendent is responsible to ensure that OCS projects are completed on schedule, within budget as per the specifications and all the work is completed safely to an acceptable standard of quality and workmanship.

The Superintendent is also responsible for the management of day to day operations in the yard.


What You'll Do Here:


  • Manage and direct all activities with respect to electrification construction, operations and maintenance.
  • Represent the Company with the owner, client and all other stakeholders.
  • Maintain personal contact with major clients and unions.
  • Ensure that Company policies and project procedures are being adhered to.
  • Ensure that all functions and operations on the job are following local legislative requirements.
  • Assist in the interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews
  • Coordinate work activities with other work operations.
  • Monitor the overall progress of the projects and takes corrective action where necessary.
  • Ensure that the owner is being advised of all extra work and claims and that subcontractors are being advised of back charges.
  • Responsible for the overall planning and scheduling to ensure that projects are constructed in a timely and costeffective manner.
  • Assist in bid process.
  • Responsible for implementing and monitoring of the Company's Safety and Environment Policies and QC Plans.
  • Ensures / tracks that quality and frequency of safety inspections and reporting is in compliance with Aecon Health & Safety and Environmental Manual.
  • Assist in the preparation of Job Hazard Analysis'.
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, incident investigations, etc.
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure the work is completed to the level of quality identified in the specifications.
  • Monitor Quality Assurance nonconformances and ensures appropriate training and followup.
  • Hiring, training, and mentoring of craft personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with union agreements, if applicable.
  • Responsible for multiple foreman and other craft labour.
  • Direct and maintain discipline and morale of the field staff.
  • Prepare staff development and succession plans for key positions in the department.
  • Drive an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcome different perspectives, and enable career progression by fostering a sense of belonging.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Ability to carry drawings and diaries as required.
  • Ability to use stairs, ladders and climb over rough terrain.
  • Ability to work long hours per day in sometimes rough weather conditions.
  • At least ten years of OCS construction and or maintenance experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Sound knowledge of construction techniques, practices, and fundamentals.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships and work within a team environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management.
  • Valid Ontario (G) driver's license.
  • Ability to travel within Ontario as required.
  • Familiarity with working on live Metrolinx tracks.
  • All required training certificates from Metrolinx, CN and CP.
  • Familiarity with OCS drawings, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Experience with management (direction and supervision) of unionized labour.
  • Selfmotivated with good organizational skills.
