Position Summary

Reporting to the Purchasing Manager of Fresh Start Foods Canada Ltd., the Buyer has overall responsibility for assisting in purchasing related activity within the Company.

The Buyer role is a hands-on purchasing professional who spends quality time in the trade and has great produce knowledge.

Working with the Purchasing Manager, they will cover the Ontario food terminal, Montreal food terminal as well as FOB purchasing.

The incumbent is also responsible to insure the overall quality, food safety and GMP's are being achieved by our suppliers.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Purchasing

The Buyer will assist the Manager of Purchasing and the team for the following

purchasing performance areas:

Revenue Growth (as per AOP)
Margin (as per AOP)
Growth of existing business within established customer base.
FOB buying
Food Terminal Purchasing
TOS Purchasing
Dry Goods
Inventory Confirmations
Weekly pricing
Market trends and updates
Attend weekly or biweekly Produce conference calls when required to do so
Attending industry related events

Customer Relationship Management

The Buyer will assist when required to do so help maintain strong relationships by:

Using conflict resolution to ensure that any customer issues / concerns are dealt with in a fair and timely manner
Arrange and/or attend field tours for customers
Markets trends and updates

Supplier Relationship Management

As part of the Purchasing team for Fresh Start Foods, when needed Buyer will be required to visit the supply chain (growers, farmers, distributors) to re-view program compliance, train and educate self on the product attributes and process, and pass along any new and innovative knowledge to Fresh Start Foods customers.

Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

Post Secondary Education (College Diploma or University Degree) with an emphasis/specialization in Purchasing, Marketing, Sales or Business Administration
Specific produce experience or certification an asset
15 years of relevant purchasing and marketing experience (preferably in a produce, food processing, or distribution / logistics environment)
Able to take a proactive approach to customer service and build strong relationships with all levels of customers
Excellent leadership, organizational, multitasking and presentation skills
Strong written and verbal communications skills
Travel as required
