Job Summary:

Respond to all manner of dynamic and/or threatening situations while adhering to Canadian Criminal Code legislation pertaining to the use of force;

  • Prepare and maintain court admissible records in relation to safety/security events;
  • Work with internal proprietary security service and contracted security services for the purpose of responding to dynamic and/or threatening situations;
  • Carry and employ a variety of issued restraint and tooling systems as well as standard tactical communication systems
  • Perform security activities such as motor vehicle and foot patrols, site surveillance, baggage xray, patdown, metal detector, and vehicle searches;
  • Proactively identify and intercept suspicious behaviours, potential risks and hazards presenting health and safety concerns.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of and be ready to implement quick response to any internal/external threat developments based on training skill sets, approved action plans and security measures.
  • Identify and record any unusual situations/anomalies to the supervisor for direction.
  • Maintain a level of fitness that would sustain the use of issued restraint and tooling systems in dynamic situations where intensity and duration may vary;
  • Carry out chauffeur duties as backup to the Director's driver;
  • Provide static security and motor vehicle transportation related to special events and VIP visits to and from the NHQ facility;
  • During drills and/or emergency situations, execute designated duties regarding information collection, communication, access control and/or evacuation of the NHQ facility in accordance with site contingency plans and procedures
  • Assist with a variety of activities related to the Integrated Anti-Intrusion Detection System.

Education:

College diploma (3-year program) and one (1) year of relevant and recent experience.

  • College diploma (2year program) and two (2) years of relevant and recent experience.
  • College diploma (1year program) and three (3) years of relevant and recent experience.
The educational program must be from an accredited learning institution recognized in Canada.


If you completed a program outside of Canada you will be required to obtain proof of a Canadian equivalency at your expense through a recognized credential assessment service.


Note:
Any higher level of education could be recognized as experience.


Experience:


Recent and relevant experience is defined as:

  • Within the last five (5) years in a protective, corrective, security type role.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a possession acquisition firearms license and restricted possession acquisition firearms license (PAL/RPAL).
  • Must have the ability to obtain a First Aid and CPR certificate.
  • Knowledge of security and emergency procedures; investigative techniques; crisis intervention.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct security surveys, emergency awareness and incident reports.
  • Drafting of oral and written security briefings and reports; good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Previous De-Escalation, Defensive Tactics, and firearms safety training would be an asset.

  • Experience with security card access systems, security turnstiles and scanners functionality
  • Proven experience in assessing behavior that may pose a security risk

Conditions of Employment:


As condition of employment, applicants will require successful completion of the Force Protection Unit training program prior to indeterminate status offered.

The following outlines the selection and training processes required of all applicants:

  • Applicants must work shifts based on a 12/5 operation with flexibility to work longer hours on short notice;
  • Applicants must have the ability to successfully complete and maintain yearly certification as it relates to Defensive Firearms Course Advanced standard moving forward;
  • Applicants must have the ability to successfully complete a De-Escalation and Defensive Tactics course (use of force and arrest authorities, relevant policies, handcuffing, and baton), and maintain yearly certification with mínimal
