Your opportunity:


The Black Research Network (BRN) was launched as a University of Toronto Institutional Strategic Initiative to promote Black excellence at U of T and to enhance the research capacity of Black scholars within the university and on the world stage.

This includes increasing the visibility of Black scholars' research accomplishments by sustaining a cross-divisional, interdisciplinary network of Black scholars and facilitating robust research engagement across the University of Toronto and internationally.

The BRN includes U of T Black-identified faculty (research and teaching stream), librarians, postdoctoral fellows, graduate and undergraduate students.

The BRN envisions deep connections with Black communities outside of U of T, and also holds space for non-Black colleagues committed to addressing anti-black racism to work alongside BRN members to achieve the goals of the network.


The BRN Executive Assistant will work under supervision of the Program Lead, BRN and under general direction of the Academic Director of the Initiative and will be responsible for being the first point of contact for the BRN, scheduling and booking meetings, coordinating logistics for events/workshops, maintaining digital platforms, arranging catering, maintaining confidential files, making travel arrangements and making minor purchases.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Resolving issues within the scope of the role and escalating problems as required
  • Determining logístical details and activities for events and/or programming
  • Making minor purchases
  • Editing content for brochures, newsletters, websites and/or handbooks
  • Maintaining information on digital platforms

Essential Qualifications:


  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three years related administrative experience.
  • Experience with project coordination.
  • Experience with event coordination and arranging logistics of events.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Familiarity working with databases.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Outstanding organizational, time management and multitasking skills.
  • A team player with sensitivity to various levels of expectations from faculty, staff and suppliers.
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills; accuracy and attention to detail.
