Consider this opportunity with the Toronto East Detention Centre where you will provide a variety of clerical, financial and administrative services and program support for the institution.


NOTE:

This position will require you to physically report to the workplace located at 55 Civic Road in Scarborough to perform the duties of the job.

What can I expect to do in this role?: In this role, you will:

  • Process all financial transactions, including accounts payable, purchasing, offender trust and revenue
  • Maintain the offender trust accounts, unclaimed funds accounts, and petty cash
  • Review and reconcile receipts and reimbursements, expense and travel claims, and ensure payments and claims are processed through the Integrated Financial Information System (IFIS) in a timely manner
  • Assist in the preparation of information for budget status reports, forecasts and statistical reports
  • Review, maintain and reconcile Pcard statements, maintain inventory and equipment records
  • Ensure record retention schedules comply with ministry standards

How do I qualify?:


Business and Financial Knowledge:


  • You have demonstrated knowledge of administrative, accounting and financial policies and processes.
  • You have an understanding of financial systems and data bases.
  • You have an understanding of trust account procedures to process and reconcile records or documentation.

Analytical and Reasoning Skills:


  • You can verify financial information with strong attention to detail.
  • You are able to demonstrate tact and diplomacy to resolve account discrepancies or complaints when dealing with confidential information.

Administrative and Financial Skills:


  • You have strong accounting, financial and arithmetic skills to process and code invoices, prepare monthly budgets, reconcile monthly financial statements and prepare journals.
  • You have proven administrative skills to provide a wide range of administrative support (e.g., purchase office supplies, process mails, assist with filing and records management).

Communication Skills:


  • You can communicate effectively and explain accounting procedures.
  • You have proven ability to use judgement to determine proper responses to client inquiries.
  • You can prepare a variety of correspondence, including letters and memos.

Computer Skills:


  • You have proven data input and word processing skills.
