Summary:
Provides EHS support and guidance to site operations, supply chain, site engineering, business management and pharmaceutical development services. Ensures the site is in compliance with EHS regional regulations and corporate EHS requirements. Develops standard processes for the site and shares best practices and expertise with other sites within the network.
Essential Functions:
- Identifies continuous improvement opportunities to improve overall EHS performance across the site.
- Plan, implement, and coordinate EHS Management System activities across the organization to help reduce or eliminate occupational illness and injuries, improve employee engagement, and reduce business risks and losses.
- Ensures that management system procedures meet regulatory, ISO and corporate requirements
- In conjunction with the Director of EHS, maintains the EHS risk register
- Updates and reports on department metrics
- Supports and actively participates in Incident investigations
- Works in collaboration with site operational departments to support the completion of departmental risk assessments
- Prepares the annual internal audit plan, schedules audits according to plan and ensuring that audits are conducted and followed up in a timely manner.
- Provides client and audit support to business management
- Participates in department huddles and GEMBA walks
- Provides EHS technical support for new site initiatives and projects
- Construction and contractor management
- Prequalification evaluations
- Permit to work
- Conducts equipment reviews
- Coordinates prestart health and safety review completion
- Development of safety programs such as lockout and machine guarding
- Develops and Implements EHS Programs
- Contractor Management
- Document control
- Management Reviews
- Internal Audits
- Develops audit protocols, procedures for the department
- New Project Risk Assessments
- Attends Kick-Off Meetings and ongoing Project Meetings.
- Liaises with Project Managers, Process Engineers and Clients
- Completes EHS evaluations for new products
- Works closely with industrial hygienist to evaluate/determine containment strategies for new product introductions
- Develops, conducts and coordinates EHS training
- ISO 14001/45001/50001 Awareness
- Orientation training
- Monthly safety talks
- Completes and/or assists with special EHS projects
- Provides guidance, backup and support to other EH&S team members and Health Centre
Required qualifications
Education:
B.Sc. in a related field
EHS Certificate or Diploma
ISO 14001 or 45001 internal or lead auditor
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt
Working towards a professional designation - Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC), Registered Occupational Hygiienist (ROH), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
Experience:
Minimum 2 years of previous EHS experience
Previous work experience in pharmaceutical industry, chemical manufacturing, or construction.
Previous CDMO experience would be an asset.
