The Manager, ESG Disclosures & Data Governance plays an integral role in Scotiabank's Global Communications, Social Impact & Sustainability (GCSIS) team.

The role reports into the Senior Manager, ESG Reporting and works with stakeholders across the enterprise to support the development of the Scotiabank's ESG-related disclosures and maintain strong data governance practices.


Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

ESG Data Management & Governance:
Collect, govern and archive ESG data for the Bank.

  • Lead the collection of ESG data for the Bank's sustainabilityrelated disclosures (e.g. Annual ESG Report, including facilitation of governance reviews and approvals).
  • Manage the development of the Bank's ESG Data Pack (including ESG data performance tables, GRI/SASB/PAS indices, etc.).
  • Own, maintain and continually optimize the use of the Banks ESG data management system with our preferred 3rd party platform provider, Novisto.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and offer training and support to primary content providers and other users at Scotiabank. Maintain meticulous documentation and organization of sustainability data and stakeholder correspondence, including to satisfy audit requirements.
  • Help keep the bank safe by participating and/or advising on internal and external audit and process matters where appropriate.
ESG Raters, Rankers and

Investor Queries:

Strategize, write, submit, and archive annual ESG raters and rankers for Scotiabank, including the S&P Global CSA (Corporate Sustainability Assessment), CDP, ISS, MSCI, Sustainalytics, etc.


  • Manage stakeholder engagement and lead the development of responses to ESG surveys from raters/rankings (S&P CSA, CDP, Sustainalytics, etc.), RFPs, internal requests/questionnaires, etc.
  • Manage the planning and calendaring of raters, rankers, and investor queries.
  • Prepare timely executive briefings with analysis of results to support internal communication and prepare for external key messaging.
  • Conduct best practice research and benchmarking on raters and rankers to inform continuous improvement in sustainability reporting.

Subject Matter Expertise:
Provide consultation and advisory to functions across the Bank on ESG-related topics and disclosures.

  • Enhance Scotiabank's annual ESG report and disclosures to meet current and emerging regulatory and voluntary requirements (e.g. ISSB, CSSB, etc.).
  • Keep abreast of corporate best practice in sustainability and maintain a network of peers both inside and outside the bank to keep informed of best practices and latest trends, news, etc.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in daytoday activities and decisions.
  • Pursue effective and efficient operations of respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of daytoday business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
  • Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Minimum undergraduate degree or postgraduate qualification in sustainability or related field
  • 4+ years of relevant work experience in a corporate setting, experience in a sustainabilityrelated field is an asset
  • Experience with ESG reporting software
  • Strong working knowledge of sustainability analysts' assessment frameworks and questionnaires and contribute recommendations to strengthen alignment and transparency.
  • Understanding of external sustainability standards and frameworks relevant to investors, including but not limited to: ISSB, CSSB, CSRD, S&P Global CS, MSCI, FTSE Russell, Sustainalytics.
  • Detailoriented and analytically inclined; comfortable working with and analyzing quantitative data.
  • Resultsoriented with strong project management skills and proven ability to handle multiple tasks, change priorities, and keep up with a continually evolving and fastpaced environment.
  • Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision.
  • Effective communication (both verbal and written) and presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships, influence, and negotiate.
  • Demonstrates a passion for sustainability and understands its relevance to a financial institution.
