Emergency Medical Care Inc. (EMC) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Medavie Health Services that manages and operates ground ambulance, air medical transport and medical communications operations in Nova Scotia through a performance-based contract with the provincial government's Emergency Health Services (EHS) division and the Department of Health and Wellness. EMC also operates TeleHealth 811 Mental Health and Addictions for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for the Department of Health.
EMC delivers a high-quality pre-hospital care program and Telehealth service to Nova Scotians every day. We achieve this through more than 1,400 employees, including highly-trained paramedics, nurses, medical communication officers, and support staff.

Reports To: - HRBP Reporting to the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP),
the Human Resources Advisor supports the human resource business partnership portfolio in providing human resource advice and support including HR policies, procedures, and practices. The HR Advisor is responsible for participating in all facets of human resource administration including employee relations, performance management, compensation administration, special projects, and deploying human resources planning.
The incumbent will foster a team approach within the HR department by maintaining effective working relationships with all participants and demonstrating technical and professional expertise.
This also includes consistent, sound advice and delivery of quality service while administering applicable policies, procedures, programs, services and collective agreements.

Duties and Responsabilities:
The position entails, but is not limited to the following:
- Acts as the initial point of contact to assigned client groups for matters concerning day-to-day inquiries, recruitment needs, job evaluation, discipline, and employee relations.
- Carries out HR programs to effectively and consistently support the company meeting strategic business goals.
- Assists with developing and implementing HR initiatives to improve organizational effectiveness i.e. performance management systems, compensation systems, professional development opportunities etc.
- Supports employees and managers on conflict resolution, collective agreement interpretation, performance expectations, absenteeism, discipline and workplace harassment and discrimination and escalates complex issues to the HRBP
- Responds to external agencies inquires and requests, i.e. Human Rights Commission, Labour Board, Service Canada
- Develops and maintains professional networks including professional associations, government agencies, industry professionals etc.
- Works with divisions on project initiatives resulting from feedback from employee surveys
Advice to Leaders:
- Provides consistent advice, assistance, and communication to supervisors and managers in matters of HR policies and procedures, staffing, compensation/benefits, performance management etc.
- Ensures appropriate procedures, polices, forms, laws and other measures are adhered to
- Supports managers and supervisors on progressive discipline
- Reviews, guides, offers recommendations for employment terminations
Recruiting and staffing:
- Assists with implementing HR initiatives to improve organizational effectiveness i.e. performance management systems, compensation systems, professional development opportunities etc.
- Ensures the administrative corporate (including administration field) needs are met (i
e:
clerical and temporary agency staffing, etc.).
Other / Special Projects:
- As required, the incumbent will be assigned to special project initiatives as they arise and participate on various committees within the Human Resources department. For example projects relating to leadership, Employee Recognition, Compensation, Performance Management, Staffing, Employee Morale, as well as participating and chairing several HR Committees.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Education & Experience:
- Postsecondary education with relevant education in Human Resources (HR major, certificate, or diploma)
- Minimum three to five years' experience in a progressive "HR" gene
