Engineering teams come to us with a business, customer, or product challenge. We dive into the problem and work with the team to develop potential solutions. Then we prototype and test again and again until we've landed on something that resonates with our customers.


We act as product managers to collaborate with Market Research and internal and external partners to ensure that GM teams deliver products and features that customers love in a way that's aligned with business objectives.


Role Summary:


As a Design Intern, you will collaborate with designers and engineers side by side, and play a crucial role in supporting our ongoing innovation cycles at GM.


The Virtual Prototyping Graphical/Illustrator Animator Design Intern will work with the Innovation & Advanced Technical Work design services team to support and imagine the future of mobility contributing to the creation of new technologies, components and systems in development for production in 5+ years Work independently and with the Global Innovation team to develop new designs and strategic direction for customer facing features integrating customer focused needs and brand differentiation into all aesthetic proposals.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Develop digital concept renderings and virtual prototypes to help visualize designs, consider human factors, and present to internal partners
  • Create digital storyboards, and videos to help explain technology and communicate customer journey maps
  • Support collaboration and internal review activities with visuals
  • Creates original design ideas using electronic tools
  • Makes perspective sketches and renderings sufficient to communicate new design ideas in support of Design Thinking customer centric approach
  • Develops two and threedimensional mockups of proposed design solutions
  • Knows the latest digital design trends/technology
  • Presents new thoughts and designs both orally and visually
  • Frequent contact with others outside the work group
  • Understands program timelines and is proactive regarding task completion
  • Ability to create and communicate new design ideas
  • Proficient in appropriate design methods and procedures based on common modelling, or virtual process
  • Facilitates and/or participates in Design Reviews, both scheduled and informal workstation reviews, as required
  • Coordinates guidance from multiple internal/external customers to meet requirements
  • Keeps Design leadership and Customer informed of project status, timing, and technical issues
  • Actively identifies new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities
  • Provides mentorship to peers where possible and is able to assist other designers with design tasks when required

Qualifications:


  • Pursuit of a Bachelor's or Master's degree in the following areas: Graphic Design, Arts, Digital Futures, Interactive Design, Other Creative Design programs
  • Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week in Canada and for 4 or 8month term (12 consecutive semesters) starting May 202
  • Create a storyboard of a userproduct interaction and various touch points, that showcases the impact/changes in behaviour that the envisioned product/service/ or system has in the day of the life of X, in form of a hand drawn or digital storyboard and a final video clip
  • Demonstrate high skill level with digital concept renderings
  • Demonstrate understanding of clear communication principles including effective and professional video production and editing
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to solve highly complex problems and lead teams to consensus when needed

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Software: Autodesk Maya, Adobe Illustrator and Aftereffects, Alias, Photoshop, Cinema 4D
