Early Childhood Educator
Lutheran Early Learning Centers Inc.
Responsible to:
Centre Director and Assistant Director
Objective:
The Early Childhood Educator is responsible for providing a safe environment wherein each child can develop to their full potential: spiritually, physically, emotionally, intellectually, socially and creatively.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Early Childhood Certification Level I, II or III
- Saskatchewan Early Childcare Association (SECA) membership recommended
- Certification in Standard First Aid and CPR C, WHIMIS, Safe Food Handling
- Criminal Records Check including vulnerable sector search as you have trust and authority over children
- A sound theoretical and practical understanding of child development
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work with children in a group setting
- Able to multitask
- Familiar with ELCC reports and documents
- Knowledge of the Play and Exploration and Emergent Curriculum
Duties and Responsibilities:
- All aspects of planning and implementing of an early learning program that supports the philosophy of the organization.
- Interact with parents in a supportive and understanding manner.
- Use parent engagement software to keep families informed.
- Respond quickly and directly to children's needs, desires and messages.
- Implement guidance strategies to children's differing styles and abilities.
- Provide communication strategies that are developmentally appropriate for the age group you work with.
- Encourage children's growth and development through openended activities that value the unique responses of the individual children.
- Provide equipment and supply lists to the Director as requested.
- Provide an Anti-Bias, fully inclusive and understanding environment for team members, children and families.
- Understand all aspects of the licensing regulations, childcare act and the LELC Employee Handbook.
- Additional tasks as requested by management
Health and Safety:
- Assess children's health, provide First Aid/CPR and administer medication as needed.
- Demonstrate knowledge of all emergency procedures (fire, lockdown, tornado, pandemic)
- Maintain high level of supervision and safety according to staff:child ratios.
- Moderate to heavy lifting, walking, stretching, bending and standing for long periods is expected of early childhood educators.
- Be prepared to spend time outdoors with the children every day. It is required that employees model safe exposure to the elements.
- Ensure environmental safety by performing routine yard checks, removing damaged or broken equipment and inform Director or Assistant Director of repairs required.
- Potential contact with childhood illnesses.
- Protect yourself and others by following proper infection control protocols.
Child Development and Planning:
- Uphold an environment that promotes healthy habits and restful routines.
- Observe and evaluate the needs and interests of the children ensuring changes are made within the environment to promote positive behaviours.
- Facilitate the development of selfesteem by modelling respect, acceptance and offering comfort for children regardless of behavior.
- Support the development of emotional regulation in children.
- Provide age appropriate guidance strategies that encourage positive interactions, promote acceptable behaviour and enhance problemsolving skills.
- Complete necessary observations and documentation for each child's individual development.
- Complete forms (EA, Program Plans, Injury Reports, Medication Reports, Unusual Occurrence reports, etc).
Teamwork and Relationships:
- Contribute and collaborate amongst the team to ensure continued improvement within your program and center.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development opportunities and continued education.
- Assess and utilize resources within the center as well as the community.
- Strive to develop meaningful working relationships with fellow employees.
- Guide, supervise, evaluate and model for trainees and individuals on work placements.
- Bring to attention of the Director any problems which cannot be resolved without causing further conflict.
- To promote a positive workplace culture, avoid gossip speaking it and listening to it.
- Use conflict resolution strategies when issues arise with others
- Participate in special events of the centre.

Casual
Salary:
$13.08-$20.43 per hour
Flexible Language Requirement:
- French not required
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
