As a rapidly growing school division in Alberta, Rocky View Schools (RVS) supports the educational needs of more than 27,000 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 in 53 schools to ensure they learn, belong and succeed.
RVS is located on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy including the Siksika, Kainai, Piikani Nations; the Tsuut'ina Nation, the Stoney-Nakoda, including the Chiniki, Bearspaw and Wesley Nations; and the Métis Nation of Alberta Region 3.
Rocky View Schools (RVS) is seeking an outstanding professional for a continuing, full-time (35 hrs/week) position of Planner to join our dynamic team.

of both present and future needs. The Planner participates in stakeholder consultation processes
and analyzes demographic data and urban development proposals. The Planner represents the
RVS Operations department for those neighborhoods and schools within the RVS geographical
area boundaries.
A valid Alberta Motor Vehicle License and access to reliable vehicle as some travel will be required to schools.
Must be available to work during peak periods within the year and some overtime will be required for this position.
Responsibilities:
Represents RVS' interests in municipal and provincial policy reviews, special studies, and
task forces that relate to school land, as well as in contacts with municipalities, government
agencies, and stakeholders
Designs, facilitates, and implements questionnaires, surveys, and public consultation
meetings
Prepares reports and recommendations for Director of Operations to present to the Board
of Trustees and Senior Executive in relation to Divisional Plans
Responds to inquiries from stakeholders in a timely manner
Participates in the design and preparation of RVS infrastructure strategies and long-term
plans including site development proposals, and land requirements for future and existing
RVS facilities
Ensures that site preparation work, including zoning, subdivision, and site design, is
completed to facilitate new school construction
Participates in capital implementation projects and makes recommendations in relation to
targeting final building capacities, reviewing land and site requirements and impacts
within a Joint Use Agreement
Monitors, compiles, and analyzes residential development information, including the
interpretation of demographic data and trends
Identifies priorities for new school construction and preservation and applies to the
province for capital funding
Supports governmental and community partnerships and initiatives by assisting in the
coordination of community use of Division facilities
Participates in consultation and implementation of changes to schools or program
boundaries and school designations
Coordinates new school openings with municipalities and provincial officials, as well as
Division staff
Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree in Planning, Urban Geography or related field
7 years' experience in a Planner role including use of demographic projection software
Previous experience analyzing statistical information and public engagement techniques
Previous experience within a school division is considered an asset
Membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners (MCIP) is considered an asset
An equivalent combination of Education and Experience may be considered
Knowledge/Skills
Demonstrated ability to read and interpret site plans, architectural, engineering and
survey plans/drawings
Proven ability to establish collaborative working relationships with internal and external
clients
Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organization, prioritization, and time management skills
Ability to successfully work in a team environment as well as independently with mínimal
supervision
Strong critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and attention to detail
Working knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) is considered an asset
Working knowledge of Auto-Cad software and/or Adobe Creative suite is considered an
asset
