Specialized Educator - Montréal, Canada - Portage
Description
SUMMARY
The Specialized Educator works directly in the living environment with mothers and their child/children in the Mother and Child Program.
The specialized educator will provide learning tools individually and in a collective setting, while taking into consideration the life experience and history of the users.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports the mother in her parenting role and enables her to develop her skills;
- Accompanies mothers and their child/children in the development of healthy attachments;
- Participates in the process of making intervention plans for both the mother and her child/children and ensures that these plans are implemented;
- Works in partnership with community services directed to children and collaborates with them;
- Keeps weekly case records and writes reports for the mother and her child/children;
- Provides support, guidance and handson teachings during life occurrences and moments;
- Animates and leads groups on parental skills;
- Participates in case conferences for users and team meetings;
- Ensures the implementation of and compliance with policies, procedures and protocols;
- Offers support to other specialized educators or early childhood educators;
- Ensures followups on the stimulation plans for the child/children and accompanies the mother in their implementation;
- Plans and organizes activities for the mothers and their child/children;
- Accomplishes all other related tasks needed.
REQUIRED PROFILE
- Must hold a College diploma in Special Care Counselling or Special Education;
- Bilingual in French and English (spoken and written);
- Demonstrates the ability to work in a team setting;
- Good communication skills;
- Autonomous and demonstrates good organizational skills;
- Experience with crisis management and the use of intervention techniques.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Job Type: Permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week)

Schedule: Day and/or evening shifts in rotation, including 1 day during the weekend

Salary: to be discussed according to experience
