Pinwheel Wellness Supervisor


Pinwheel Wellness Centre Team
The Pinwheel Wellness Centre (PWC) team works as an interdisciplinary community mental health team through Autism Nova Scotia.

This team consists of 3 Registered Counselling Therapist, 1 Registered Social Workers, 2 Registered Occupational Therapist and 1 Sexuality Educator.


PWC supports Autistic adults (ages 19 +) who are experiencing co-occurring mental health difficulties, while building capacity for a more expansive professional support system for Autistic individuals through providing professional clinical practicum for students in counselling, social work, occupational therapy and health promotion programs.


PWC addresses the multi-jurisdictional challenge that Autistics have seen firsthand; specifically, the lack of mental health support and service capacity for Autistic individuals.

PWC is located in Bedford Place Mall, Bedford, Nova Scotia. PWC client access in-person, video and tele services through PWC.


Responsibilities Include:


  • Working as part of an interdisciplinary team to establish a wellrounded approach of care for clients;
  • Operates as the intake coordinator for all new clients seeking services at the center;
  • Is the first point of contact for interested clients connecting to PWC;
  • Processes all incoming referrals;
  • Conducts 815 intakes a week (online or inperson);
  • After the intake, starting clients support plans with using PWC's MTSS (multitiered system of support) framework;
  • After the intake, making internal referrals to the counselling team, occupational therapy team, case management or sexuality education;
  • Is the point of contact for clients being referred both internally and externally;
  • Creates and maintains the online database of external community services and supports;
  • Supporting PWC's counsellors, occupational therapists and sexuality educators with service navigation for current tier two and tier three clients;
Supporting PWC's Case Manager with service navigation for tier four clients;

  • Implementing and maintaining PWC's Jane platform;
  • Implementing and maintaining PWC's data tracking platforms for grant funding purposes;
  • Managing the daily administrative operations of PWC, including:
  • office supply orders
- navigating technical issues for PWC with AutismNS' technical service providers
- greeting clients and families as they arrive to PWC
- ensuring new staff and students are onboarded
- maintaining the electronic files system for PWC
- ensuring updated information is posted to PWC's website

  • Demonstrates professionalism, adheres to standards of professional practice, and ethics of the NSCSW
  • Attends team rounds, team meetings, client planning meetings;

Education and Certification Requirements:


  • Bachelor of Social Work degree from a recognized university is required;
  • Completion of a practicum in a clinical mental health setting is considered an asset;
  • 1 year experience in clinical mental health setting;
  • Professional liability insurance;

Clinical Experience & Competency Requirements:


  • Experience and competencies in working from a neurodiversity affirming lens;
  • Experience and competencies in the following areas:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the mental health and community services offered within Nova Scotia required;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of crisis supports;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with assessing risk of harm to self and others required;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with/within the ethical guidelines of the NSCSW

Autism Experience & Competency Requirements:


  • Minimum of 12 years experience supporting Autistic adults is required;
  • Works from a social model of disability perspective;
  • Experience and familiarity with accessing resources and content created by first voices in the Autistic community;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the autism and disability services offered within Nova Scotia required;
  • Experience and familiarity with creating accommodations and suppor
