Main Function:To ensure the provision of a spiritual/pastoral ministry in a non-denominational manner.


Duties:
Under the general supervision of the Manager of Therapeutic Services.

  • Coordinate all worship services, seasonal celebrations and special activities and services; provide grief, bereavement, palliative care support and crisis intervention to residents and families.
  • Facilitate contact with the residents' former community/faith groups and clergy when required; provide oneonone spiritual visitation to residents and families as required.
  • Coordinate and maintain supplies
    for the chapel and worship services.
  • Coordinate and maintain an effective Pastoral Care Committee.
  • Recruit, direct,
    supervise and evaluate pastoral volunteers; provide regular educational inservices.
  • Coordinate religious and spiritual activities.
  • Provide opportunities for group bible studies and provision of
    sacramental ministries, and other spiritual rites.
  • Participate in annual multidisciplinary care conferences as required and ensure documentation is complete in the resident chart.
  • Coordinate and maintain an emergency on call clergy list.
  • Attend regional Multi-Faith Council meetings.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures for the Spiritual and Religious Care Program.
  • Participate in the Ethics Committee.
  • Facilitate professional services to the Palliative Care Program, while incorporating and providing a holistic approach to end of life care.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, specifically the registered Social Worker, to ensure an interdisciplinary approach to peoplecentered care.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS's Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:


Education and Training:


  • Successful completion of a graduate degree in Religious Studies.
  • Basic Canadian Association for Pastoral Practice and Education (C.A.P.P.E.) training.
  • Endorsement of his/her denomination or faith and the Ontario Multifaith Council for Spiritual and Religious Care.

Experience:


  • A minimum of two (2) years working experience in a local faith community.
  • Trained and/or experience in gerontology and a sound understanding of longterm care residents considered an asset.

Knowledge of:


  • Best practices within areas of responsibility.
  • The _Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021._
