The Opportunity


Based at the Wetland Centre at the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park, the Nature Interpreter will assist with DUC and Department of Natural Resources and Renewables Wetland Education Programs in Nova Scotia.


Responsibilities

Reporting to the Outreach Specialist, responsibilities may include:

  • Delivering educational programming at the Wetland Centre, Shubenacadie Wildlife Park.
  • Traveling to various wetland sites in Nova Scotia to deliver educational programming.
  • Assisting with various wetland education activities and events, such as the Treasured Wetlands of Nova Scotia program.
  • Assisting with Wetland Centre upkeep, trails, gift shop, or other administrative tasks as needed.
  • Compiling feedback of education programs.
  • Assisting with the care of small animals (such as aquatic insects and reptiles).

Requirements:


  • Experience working with youth and/or the public.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Enthusiasm for the environment, wildlife, and conservation.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of wildlife/wetland ecosystems, Dept. of NRR, DUC, operations is an asset.
  • Bilingualism is an asset.
  • Between the ages of 15 and 30 at the time of job commencement (Canada Summer Jobs requirement)
  • Possess valid first aid and CPR training.
  • Be willing to complete Vulnerable Sector Check and Criminal Records Check.
  • High School diploma required with priority given to those with a Bachelor's degree or enrolled in a related field (Biology, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Education, etc.).

Details

  • Expected term of employment is a minimum of 8 weeks (pending funding), beginning in early May 202
  • Some evening and weekend work may be required.
  • This position involves traveling in NS.
