Role:The Recreation Therapy Assistant carries out an established residents activity program under the general supervision of the Supervisor.
Summary of Duties:
Carries out resident activity programs such as arts and crafts, sports, music, woodworking, cooking, gardening and exercises as directed; sets up and organizes furnishings and equipment for activity projects, teaches the techniques of related activities to residents, oversees the residents activities and reports problems and/or changes to supervisor.
Carries out residents activity programs outside the facility; checks that resident has appropriate clothing and necessary equipment for the activity, confirms details of proposed activity with nursing/medical staff, co-ordinates the movement of residents during the activity and teaches the techniques of related activities.
Maintains inventory of equipment, tools and materials and reports malfunctioning equipment and supply needs to appropriate staff.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Grade 12, completion of recognized recreational courses such as handicrafts plus two years' recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
_ Hours of Work_:
Sunday to Wednesday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm -
Thursday 12:30 to 8:30 pm
Hourly Wage:
$28.74/hour
