The
Maintenance Planner role is based in Edmonton, Alberta and reports directly to the Cement Plant Maintenance Manager.


What you'll get to do:


  • Coordinate maintenance activities for the plant. Schedule prioritized work from the work order backlog and produce regular work schedules to ensure required maintenance is performed. Manage the planning of all major equipment outages and significant repairs by utilizing projectplanning techniques and software.
  • Support electrical department outage.
  • Coordinate the monitoring, evaluation and modification of the preventative, predictive and proactive maintenance programs to ensure maximum equipment uptime and efficient use of resources.
  • Support the mechanical/electrical maintenance functions of the plant through the following:
  • Work closely with production and other departments in developing the work schedules including the coordination of maintenance activities for efficient flow of operations.
  • Develop and maintain files and drawings for the maintenance department (eg. drawings, checklists, maintenance history, etc.)
  • Work closely with the stores department to ensure availability of parts for scheduled work orders. Maintain and keep the bill of materials (BOM) records up to date.
  • Assist the maintenance manager in the preparation of the annual maintenance budget; the development of the department's longterm goals and objectives to meet the overall plant operational and cost goals.
  • Contribute to maintenance projects by identifying parts required to execute work, tool requirements, manpower requirements, and the estimated completion time for effective planning and execution of project work.
  • Abide by the plant and corporate rules of conduct, health, safety standards to minimize injuries and lost time incidents. Report on the timing and completion of all safety related orders and notifications.
  • Facilitate daily and weekly planning meetings as required to record and report the necessary repairs based on input from the production and other plant departments. Generate other maintenancerelated reports as required.
  • Facilitate shutdown planning meetings as required to prioritize upcoming major repairs.
  • Ensure contractor labour is tracked and time is charged to the purchase orders in a timely Manner. Dispatch work orders weekly and print off for the maintenance supervisors daily.
  • Manage the work order system (SAP), including recording completions of work orders, creating requisitions, capturing the parts required for each work order and ensuring work orders are created and released according to corporate guidelines.
  • Update shutdown plans while in outages and gather and track contractor costs on a daily basis. Actively participate in and facilitate outage review meetings.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Who we are looking for:


  • Strong technical proficiency in mechanical and electrical areas, trade certificate, technical diploma or equivalent experience preferred
  • Minimum of 4 years of maintenance experience at an industrial facility is desired.
  • Solid understanding of preventive/predictive/corrective maintenance principles, techniques, and technologies
  • Familiarity with industrial plant operations, plant equipment, repair techniques and resource planning
  • Working knowledge of purchasing principles.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a good working knowledge of filing systems for drawings, manuals and equipment records.
  • Solid computer skills including knowledge of computerized maintenance software preferably SAP; prior experience with project management software and electronic timekeeping systems a plus.
  • Ability to integrate the needs of multiple parties into an overall goal
  • Strong communication skills to ensure coordination of work and completion of tasks
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products including MS Excel, Word, Access, and Project
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic thinking and decision making.
  • Ability to perform tasks that include walking, climbing equipment, and working within confined spaces
