The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for up to two regular full-time
Building Inspectors to join our team of professionals in the Community Development Division, Permit, Licence and Inspection Services Department.
Reporting to the Manager, Permit, Licence and Inspection Services, in this unionized position you will perform regulatory work including inspections of property and on-going construction to ensure conformance to bylaws, codes and standards.
Responsibilities:
- Inspect residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional structures at various stages of construction to ensure conformance to bylaws, building and plumbing codes, and standards
- Examine and review building plans, drawings, and applicable documentation
- Approve or reject work inspected and enforce changes and corrections as required
- Issue permits for all types of construction and structures where compliance with Township Bylaws, applicable codes and regulations have been met
- Provide input and retrieve information from the Township's electronic system for inspections and the issuance of permits
Qualifications:
- Thorough knowledge of the B.C. Building Code, Plumbing Code, Municipal Bylaws and construction practices, policies, and procedures
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications and related material, recognize technical requirements, and suggest changes and corrections as required
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal/external contacts and tactfully enforce regulations, bylaws and ordinances
- Certification as a Building Official Level 2 or 3 and Plumbing Official Level 1 is considered an asset
- BOABC Level 1, 2 and/or 3 certifications
- Registration as a Building Official
