Job Summary


The Coder will work with physicians and allied health care providers toward a common understanding of CIHI grouper methodology and its relationship to documentation funding and decision making.

Maintains effective interpersonal skills to work with physicians, co-workers and staff in a positive co-operative manner. He/she role models organizational core competencies.


Skills & Abilities

  • Two years current coding of inpatient, day surgery, oncology and or emergency records using ICD10 CA and CCI
  • Complexity Analysis


  • Competent in software

  • MS Office, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint is an asset
  • Ability to maneuver through Meditech, Med2020 WinRecs, Folio
  • Ability to focus and concentrate in a busy, often loud environment
  • Demonstrated initiative, leadership and teamwork skills

Qualifications

  • Health Information Management diploma
  • Canadian Health Information Management Association certification (CHIMA)

Primary Responsibilities

  • Using ICD10 CA and CCI classification to assign codes to inpatient, day surgery, oncology and or emergency patients
  • Entering data (abstracting) into Med2020 WinRecs system
  • Perform the above functions on a concurrent basis with accuracy
  • Must have excellent knowledge of medical terminology
  • Must have a good understanding of anatomy and physiology along with disease processes
  • Selfdriven to keep up the above noted knowledge
  • Perform all quality, correction functions associated with above functions
  • Performs other duties consistent with the job classification, as required
  • Work with physicians to affect change in documentation on the chart such that CMGs and expected length of stay are correctly assigned
