The Stop's Farmers' Market Assistant

Parental Leave Contract

July 1, 2024 to December 31, 2025

Part-Time: 15 hours per week

This is a Bargaining Unit Position

ABOUT THE STOP:


THE OPPORTUNITY:

**KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: - Ensure the guidelines, rules, and health and safety protocols of the Farmers' Market and the site are followed

  • Assist with and guide the setup and tear down of the Farmers' Market on Saturdays
  • Assist in the coordination and scheduling of Farmers' Market volunteers and relief staff; support the Farmers' Market Manager in administrative tasks
  • Provide support for new and existing vendors and community groups
  • Provide customer support as an ambassador of The Stop
  • Liaise with stakeholders and partners at the Market and Farm/vendor visits, as needed
  • Track, record and assemble data
  • Plan for monthly promotion/education event for the Farmers' Market
  • Maintain up to date vendor and volunteer lists
  • Prepare venue for the Farmers Market (Fridays): map floors or walkways, vendors and prepare all the chalkboards
  • Other duties as assigned

GENERAL

  • Ensure programming reflects The Stop's values, policies and procedures, including Anti-Racism Anti-Oppression Policy
  • Represent The Stop constructively when engaging with the public
  • Meet with supervisor on a regular basis
  • Attend staff meetings regularly
  • Participate in broader planning and team building activities at the agency

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:


  • At least 3 years minimum paid work experience managing or coordinating Farmers' Markets and/or large community events
  • Strong project management skills; able to work underpressure
  • Passionate about sustainable agriculture and the local economy/ knowledge of food systems and Land sovereignty
  • Strong commitment to Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression principles
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong computer skills able to work in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word and One Drive
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; able to deescalate conflict
  • Comfortable enforcing policies and Health and Safety protocols
  • Committed to Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression and Indigenous reconciliation
  • Have a valid drivers' license (G2) is a desired asset
