The Care Support Aide (CSA) is responsible for supporting the physical, emotional, spiritual, and social well being of residents by performing unregulated care tasks which support the PSW role.

Under the direction of the RPN, RN and Nursing Management.

The CSA is responsible for providing this care in a safe and professional manner within the scope of their position.

Responsibilities:

Provide support to Residents and PSW role by performing basic personal care (eating, hair care, nail care, grooming, shaving, and room tidying, etc.) as set out in the Multi-Disciplinary Plan of Care.
Assist to ensure Residents nutritional needs are met, following Compliance Standards (i.e., supporting at mealtimes, snack cart duties, etc.).
Assists in the nursing process by observing and reporting immediately, to the RPN/RN, any changes in resident's physical and emotional condition.
Support for resident transfers using the safe resident lift and transfer methods as taught at orientation must use 2 staff for all mechanical lift transfers.
Observes and respects residents' rights, dignity, privacy, confidentiality and refers residents' family concerns to the appropriate party for prompt follow up.
Participate in annual education, required inservices, and adheres to St. Joseph's at Flemings policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
Previous experience or education in healthcare industry, required.
Experience working in Long-Term Care field an asset
Must be available to work weekends, statutory holidays, and varied shifts.
Must have strong written, verbal, and nonverbal communication skills.
Must be able to work well with others in a multidisciplinary team.
Ability to prioritize and respond to changing environmental needs.
Possess strong conflict resolution skills and critical thinking skills. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
