Description
GSE Mechanic Apprentice
The Ground Service Mechanic is responsible for general troubleshooting and repair work on gas/diesel engines and associated systems, electrical systems, transmissions, gears, brakes, and all other systems associated with airport service equipment.
Duties:
- Handle repairs and maintenance of all ground service handling equipment
- Ensure preventative maintenance is performed on all Warehouse machine
- Maintain complete inventory records of machinery, equipment repairs, and service cycle activities
- Operate and drive all types of equipment, motorized and nonmotorized
- Provide troubleshooting and diagnostic assessment of ground support equipment as required
- Remove malfunctioning ground support equipment from service and ensure GSE is not returned to service until malfunction has been properly diagnosed and repaired
- Respond to emergency service calls, as well as accidents involving ground support equipment
- Pick up parts and material required for maintenance and repair
- Own and demonstrate proper use of tools, diagnostic equipment, etc. required for equipment maintenance and repair
- Complete all maintenance and repair documentation consistent with carrier, station, airport authority, municipal, state, and federal requirements
- Comply with all federal provincial, municipal, airport authority, and carrier security requirements
- Retain a motor vehicle driver's license for both air side/non air side in good standing during entire employment
- Follow all safety guidelines set out by management
- Always maintain cleanliness of all the warehouse shop and its equipment clean and serviceable
- Report all deficiencies to management
Requirements:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have at least 1 year of experience with troubleshooting and repair on gas/diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, transmission/rear end, basic chassis/brakes, as well as fabrication skills (MIG and Arc welding/cutting).
- Possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Obtain an airport security clearance, which includes an extensive 10year employment, criminal record, and residence background check
- Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds (32 kg) in confined spaces on a regular basis
- Work outside in all types of weather, around jet and machinery noises
