You are
A _Recreation Assistant_. You will work with the Recreational Facilitators of Recreation, Leisure and Accessible Sport on program activities. The individual is responsible for supporting adults, children and youth with disabilities while participating in program activities.


Your Role

  • Support adults, children, and youth with disabilities while they participate in recreation, leisure, and accessible sport activities.
  • Assist with bridging social gaps between participants while attending recreation, leisure, and accessible sport programs for adults, children and youth with disabilities.
  • Provide personal care in activities of daily living which includes, but is not limited to, feeding, dressing, toileting, bathing, transferring, as well as administering and recording medications.
  • Complete various tasks such as set up and clean up to ensure programs meet stated objectives and goals.

What You Know

  • High school diploma and related experience. Post secondary education in a related discipline an asset.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities primarily in the areas of recreation, leisure, and accessible sport.
  • Experience with and willing to assist consumers in activities of daily living (dressing, feeding, mobility, transferring, toileting).
  • Knowledge of various recreation, leisure and accessible sport programs and community events.
  • Proven leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and problem solve.
  • Knowledge of accessibility issues.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of ASL and Deaf culture.
