JOB SUMMARY**:
The Cultural Advisor (Odaihohnyanih/Hadaihohnyanih) reports to and works under the direction and supervision of the Program Supervisor.

Under the direction of the Six Nations Child and Youth Health Team Program Supervisor, our Odaihohnyanih/Hadaihohnyanih will advise, support, and advocate for programming rooted in Haudenosaunee cultural values.

Our Odaihohnyanih/Hadaihohnyanih is immersed in our Entry to School program and acts as a resource to the Entry to School Team in its development and delivery of culturally safe services.

The Entry to School Program is a six month group based program to prepare children with autism entering school for the first time to be successful in their transition to school.

The role of our Odaihohnyanih/Hadaihohnyanih is to preserve and promote traditional Haudenosaunee practices, thereby enhancing a positive and strong cultural identity for clients and their families.

They will advise on setting up the environment, and review curriculum, treatment plans, and provider recommendations from a Haudenosaunee cultural perspective.

They will take the lead on community engagement efforts for autism programming and will incorporate community feedback in programming decisions.

The Cultural Advisor (Odaihohnyanih/Hadaihohnyanih) works within the policies and procedures established by Six Nations of the Grand River.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Working experience of cultural preservation and teachings OR
Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous studies, and experience in working with Six Nations children and family

  • Fluent or highly knowledgeable in Cayuga and/or Mohawk language
  • Must have knowledge of Haudenosaunee traditions, culture, storytelling, and ways of being
  • Understands importance of confidentiality under PHIPA
  • Valid Class "G" license and reliable transportation
