Reporting to the Manager of Internal Communications - Extendicare, this position will foster engagement with our key internal stakeholders, with a focus on our Head Office and long-term care homes.

As part of a broader Public Affairs team key responsibilities include effectively building relationships with Extendicare's team members and those in our care, and using the right communication channels at the right time to inform, inspire and engage an organization in the midst of transformation.


This is a hybrid position:
the role is based at our Corporate Office located in Markham, Ontario.


Responsibilities:


  • Draft compelling content across a variety of channels for various internal audiences (e.g., employees, residents, family members, patients/clients).
  • Support with content planning, development and distribution via enewsletters, intranet and other channels as appropriate.
  • Using critical thinking, and in consultation with the Managers and Director of Internal Communications, act as a strategic filter to recommend the most appropriate and engaging approaches to communication.
  • Provide support for internal communications for the Extendicare Head Office, helping to establish a framework and best practices in collaboration with key partners.
  • As part of a broader planning team, support the biannual National Leadership Conference, including logistics, event planning, project planning and content development.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Coordinator to maintain and update Extendicare's intranet, ensuring information and is accurate, uptodate, and reflective of our brand.
  • Stay informed on internal and external issues impacting the health care sector, to support the team in ensuring relevant internal audiences receive relevant updates on issues that may have an impact on the business.
  • Share responsibility for managing central communications mailboxes to ensure timely responses to inquiries from employees, families, residents, clients and stakeholders.

Requirements:


  • Undergraduate degree in Communications, English or comparable experience, along with three to five years of experience in a communications role.
  • Familiarity with internal communications, public affairs and event planning.
  • Enjoys writing and demonstrates excellent writing skills with experience creating concise, compelling content for a wide range of audiences, with strong attention to detail.
  • Creative, innovative and critical thinker who is comfortable providing sound advice and challenging the status quo, while valuing collaboration and considering multiple perspectives.
  • Thrives in fastpaced, issuedriven and teambased environment, with a demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and succinctly.
  • Ability to identify and quickly shift priorities, manage competing timelines and be relentless in getting the job done with colleagues who care deeply about their work and the people we serve.
  • Multimedia, video, photography, graphic design software and web content management systems experience an asset.
