Position Overview:


Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you will be responsible for processing the biweekly payroll for specific departments and providing related data to internal stakeholders and external agencies.

Responsibilities:


  • Participate in and coordinate payroll processing and ensure the accuracy of the payroll processing
  • Follow up with managers and unit clerks regarding employee attendance, status changes, and payroll adjustments
  • Maintain personnel files and records ensuring confidentiality
  • Process payroll adjustment forms
  • Process termination documentation (e.g. Record of Employment, pension plan, etc.)
  • Prepare payroll reports as requested from internal and external stakeholders
  • Process enrollments/terminations and any changes to coverage and contributions
  • Ensure that all payments, contributions and transfers are accurately processed and documented
  • Respond to employee inquiries in a professional and timely manner
  • Identify and respond to issues in a timely manner, demonstrating appropriate followup
  • Assist with T4 process and related year end activities

Requirements:


  • Minimum high school diploma and completion of the Payroll Compliance Certification from the Canadian Payroll Association, or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year handson working experience in Payroll
  • Knowledge of payroll practices and regulations (e.g. Canada Revenue Agency, Ontario Ministry of Finance, etc.)
  • Excellent computing skills and MS Office including Outlook and Excel are mandatory
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Able to respect the confidentiality of information held by the Payroll Department
  • Able to work under pressure in order to meet deadlines
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates values consistent with SHN's Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation
  • Engages in ethical conduct and strives to understand and appreciate the diversity of our patient/staff population and community
  • Strong work ethic and commitment is required
  • Demonstrated high standards of work outputs
  • Highly punctual
  • Demonstrated professionalism and reliability

Asset:


  • Knowledge of Meditech payroll is an asset
  • Knowledge of Workday payroll is an asset
  • Working experience in the unionized payroll
  • Previous experience in a healthcare environment
  • Bilingualism is an asset
