REPORTS TO:
Plant Manager


JOB SUMMARY:
The Manual Machinist is responsible for using conventional milling machines to create quality parts as per specifications and blueprints.

Responsibilities also include maintenance of the machinery they use, continuous quality assurance checks on machined parts, and calculating dimensions and tolerances using instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Detect equipment malfunctions or outoftolerance machining and adjusts machine, within capabilities, controls, or control media as required to insure the quality of production, and report all machine
  • Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in the preparation of machinery work.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, or materials onto machines.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations.
  • Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.
  • Fabricates and shapes parts such as tools and machine parts out of various types of material
  • Properly and safely selects, aligns, secures, and removes holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines
  • Recognizes, deploys, and properly uses inserts, fixtures, and tooling
  • Performs daily and regular cleaning and light maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment
  • Evaluate experimental procedures and recommend changes or modifications for efficiency and adaptability to setup and production
  • Utilizes and abides by ISO requirements and safety procedures
  • Complies with all quality policies, specifications, regulations and instructions

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Postsecondary diploma or certification in a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience operating manual machines in a heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Experience in the Aerospace industry is a strong asset.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Intermediate knowledge of reading drawings and specifications with an intermediate understanding of geometric tolerancing and dimensions.
  • Intermediate knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts, and other accessories used on various machines.
  • Ability to complete job traveler
  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Must be able to communicate in English (both written and oral) as it relates to the job.
  • Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, and competing demands and can deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible shifts and changing work schedules.
  • Must possess basic math skills to include but not limited to adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, geometry, and algebra for the purpose calculating material fabrication.
  • Ability to detect, isolate, and identify irregularities and malfunctions in machinery and equipment.
  • Able to fabricate new parts to replace defective parts during machine setup, maintenance, or overhaul.
  • Thorough knowledge of loadbearing capabilities of the equipment.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, schematics, drawings, manuals, and specifications.
  • Familiarity with quality standards.
  • Accurate and highly analytical.
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude

Salary:
$22.00-$26.00 per hour
