Full-time, 2 Year Fixed Term

Salary Range:

Starting salary at $65,100, based on a 35-hour work week._ _Salary for this position will commensurate with each individual's education and/or experience as it relates to the position.


Location:
Remote/Hybrid within Canada - preference to be located in Saskatoon or Regina, SK.

What You Will Do


The Remote Sensing Analyst will be responsible for undertaking the classification of various wetland/land cover mapping projects, working with a team of other Remote Sensing Analysts/Specialists/Scientists, to support DUC's vision and strategies.

As a member of the Prairie GIS team, you will provide remote sensing technical expertise and leadership to internal clients and collaborate with external partners to meet DUC's mission and implement mapping project components.


Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage technical production of prairie wetland mapping initiatives in accordance with internal protocols and standards.
  • Support image processing tasks, archiving and distribution of remotely sensed data.
  • Help support, design, and implement research related to the development of wetland classification/inventory.
  • Compile project reports, metadata and proposals as required.
  • Identify, gather, analyze, and integrate spatial data/imagery from internal or external sources (e.g., USGS, Google Earth Engine, etc.).
  • Support the compilation of wetland inventory project metadata and other documentation.
  • Participate in project teams providing GIS support, spatial analysis, modeling and decision support.

Requirements:


  • University degree in GIS, Remote Sensing, Geography, or a related environmental science.
  • Minimum 13 years' work experience using GIS/Image Analysis software.
  • Proficient with ESRI ArcGIS; image processing software (e.g., PCI, ERDAS, SNAP, etc.).
  • Experience with objectbased image analysis (OBIA) methods, proficiency with PCI Catalyst is a highly desirable asset.
  • Experience with programming Python Libraries (e.g., R, RSGISLib, etc) is a highly desirable asset.
  • Experience with classification of wetlands and/or land cover from multisource inputs (e.g., Planet Scope, Sentinel2, DEM, etc.) is a highly desirable asset.
  • Experience working with various optical satellite imagery (e.g., Sentinel2, Planet Scope, etc.).
  • Experience performing image interpretation with aerial imagery.
  • Understanding of remote sensing concepts, products and processing steps of optical, Planet Scope, LiDAR, etc.
  • Proven knowledge of geographic and cartographic principles (e.g., projections and datums).
  • Ability to work independently, and also within a team.
  • Efficient learner, with strong ability to follow workflow instructions.
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to set priorities and meet rigid deadlines.
  • Ability to travel to remote communities throughout Prairie Canada.
  • A valid Canadian driver's license is required.
  • Prior experience with wetland ecosystems is an asset.
