Position Summary:


Reporting to the Dean of FESTI, Division Chief is directly responsible for supervising assigned Fire Service Instructors (Captain) and the Fire Service Technician.

Division Chiefs are also directly responsible for the supervision of Student Mentors, and Associate Instructors while working daily at FESTI.


Key Accountabilities:


  • Use effective communication and accountability skills to resolve interpersonal conflicts, provide support, and manage expectations
  • Identify qualified instructors for training programs
  • Evaluate and promote consistency and effectiveness of training practices throughout the department leveraging various testing measures to assess the performance and experience of learners
  • Follow ADDIE process for proper gap analysis when designing or developing new courses in accordance with adult learning principles
  • Provide robust and personalized development plan for each direct report. Complete weekly oneonone meetings to track progress and ensure growth of the team, and annual review process as per the CBA
  • Complete various administrative duties using various software as required including but not limited to: MyHR, LMS, Oracle
  • Work collaboratively with administrative team to set up staff and vendor contracts
  • Complete required course paperwork as assigned "Owner" of a specific course of cell
  • Provide onboarding and training to new staff as delineated by GTAA and internal process
  • Deliver training as required by Management or to assist in the safe/ effective delivery of training programs
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:


  • Minimum education required is a Post-Secondary School or Technical school diploma/certificate or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience to indicate full the ability to cover all aspects of this position
  • Required certification in NFPA Level II, as a Fire Service Instructor or Adult Education certification/ degree in education
  • Minimum 3 years' experience leading people is an asset
  • Able to obtain "D/A" Airside Vehicle Operators License (AVOP) license
  • Valid Ontario class "G" driver license
  • Obtain or maintain current certificates in Standard First Aid and CPR
  • Able to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance
  • Security Clearance: Level II Confidential

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Practical experience with respect to facilitating classroom and virtual training programs using all tools necessary for a comprehensive learning experience
  • Experience developing facilitation skills in others
  • Experience designing, editing, reviewing, providing feedback on facilitator guides, lesson plans, and safety training plans
  • Experience developing SOG's/SOP for department use
  • Having a strong knowledge of Accreditation /OFM Endorsement processes, proficient with eLearning software, and experience in eLearning module development is an asset
  • Proven experience evaluating training programs, delivery, and effectiveness
  • Proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Office 365 (OneNote, OneDrive, Groups, Teams, SharePoint)
  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills
The GTAA is a federally-regulated private sector corporation. The Government of Canada has suspended mandatory vaccination requirement for federally regulated transportation sector workers.

The GTAA continues to monitor government and health developments relating to COVID -19 and may re-introduce the Vaccination and proof of Vaccination requirements in the Policy at any time.
