About the Opportunity:


Reporting to the Manager within the Endoscopy unit, the Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for all duties associated with the collection and distribution of patient care items and the decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization handling, and storage of patient care medical equipment and supplies.

All responsibilities are carried out in adherence to professional standards, manufacturer's instructions, and departmental policies and procedures.


About You:

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Grade 1
  • Successful completion of a Medical Device Reprocessing Course is required
  • If no qualified applicants, will consider applicants who are currently enrolled in a Medical Device Reprocessing Course
  • Formal education in anatomy, medical terminology, microbiology, and infection control preferred
  • Membership with the Medical Device Reprocessing Association of Nova Scotia preferred
  • Previous experience working in the setting preferred
  • Experience operating MDR related equipment
  • Training and experience in the reprocessing of endoscopes using various AER's an asset
  • Knowledge of Routine Practices and Infection Control measures
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to problem solve
  • An aptitude for tasks requiring manual dexterity and technical skill
  • Computer experience
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
  • Physical Demands: Repetitive bending, repetitive lifting and carrying up to a maximum of 30 pounds, repetitive pushing and pulling carts up to a maximum of 400 pounds. Constant standing and walking. Exposure to chemicals, blood, and body fluids and extreme heat and humidity as well as loud noise.

Hours:


  • Permanent Part Time (40%)/ 30 hours biweekly
  • Rotating shifts, from Monday to Friday between
  • Travel to other sites may be required
  • A skill test may be included as part of the selection process
  • Oncall for the reprocessing of Endoscopes may be required.

Compensation and Incentives:

$ $24.56 hourly
