Seniors, Community and Social Services (SCSS) provides supports for seniors, families and communities, and helps Albertans access disability services, financial supports, services for the homeless, and other social-based programs.


This ministry supports Albertans through a person-centred, integrated service delivery model that recognizes the unique circumstances, experiences and strengths of individuals and families.


The SCSS Modernization Office is responsible for the modernization and digital re-engineering of SCSS programs to deliver simpler, faster and more cost-effective services that better meet the needs of Albertans, staff, service delivery partners and others.

The office is an integral part of the SCSS Digital Transformation to enable the SCSS Digital Road map and vision "SCSS will provide simple, modern and accessible digital services that empower Albertans to achieve their goals.

Role Responsibilities:


Reporting to the Manager, Business Operations and Modernization, the Modernization Projects Supervisor is a key resource in the mandate of the SCSS Modernization Office with operational responsibility for delivering the digital services.

Each project focuses on developing a product or digital service to meet the specific business needs e.g. workflow and reporting for a business area.


The Modernization Projects Supervisor provides project management leadership, mentoring and coaching, and alignment and oversight activities associated with the successful development and implementation of Employment and Financial Services Division and other stakeholders strategic projects and initiatives.


Key responsibilities of the Modernization Projects Supervisor:

  • Oversee the direction of project management activities that result in organizational change
  • Represent the Branch on crossministry project management work
  • Ensure that work aligns to the complex strategy and policy environment
  • Provide leadership and supervision to a team of project coordinators, training coordinator, and analytics resources
  • Establish effective relationships with key stakeholders through collaboration and consulting
  • Assess the capability and capacity of the organization to implement projects
  • Define the product vision and strategy
  • Make product/project decisions and establish priorities
  • Ensure project quality
  • Review and monitor completed work
  • Provide project surge capacity
  • Manages Action Requests(ARs)/Briefings/correspondence
  • Assist Managers/Directors and ED deliver on projects

Qualifications:

A University degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Information Technology or related area of study, with a minimum of four years progressively responsible related experience across

  • Project management with experience implementing large scale multifaceted projects.
  • Risk Management
  • Stakeholder Management
  • Experience managing staff, direct reports and contracted resources with diverse and specialized knowledge providing direction and mentorship.
  • Demonstrated ability to strategize, create and implement effective solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to make key decisions and have direct leadership responsibility.

Equivalency:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; OR
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Assets

  • Demonstrated competencies in leading and participating in project teams including business areas and technical resource.
  • Knowledge of government strategic goals and policy directions, particularly as they relate to SCSS mandated business plans, priorities, organization, and decisionmaking structures of lead, partner, and support ministries.
  • Depth and breadth of knowledge of SCSS programs, services, service delivery mechanisms and Information Technology systems.
  • Strong understanding of the behaviours and preferences of individuals accessing SCSS programs and services.
  • Knowledge in the following areas:
  • Innovation and best practices in social services policy, practice and service delivery;
