The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has an opening for a permanent full-time Manager, Recreation & Community Engagement in the Recreation & Community Engagement Services division.
Job description
The Manager, Recreation Services is responsible for ensuring that high-quality recreation programming opportunities are available, accessible and improve quality of life for all residents and visitors of the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.
Demonstrate Chatham-Kent's core values and competencies
Responsible to hire, train, coach/mentor and manage the performance of the team
Lead, direct and motivate a team which consists of non-union full-time, part-time, seasonal employees
Oversee annual operating budget
Responsible for developing a long-term strategic plan, involving community partners that contribute to the overall well being of the community
Develop and implement business plan action items with measurable outcomes
Develop, implement, maintain and improve appropriate plans, programs, procedures and agreements which support the accomplishment of departmental goals and objectives.
Responsible for identifying recreation trends using relevant data, best practices, and innovative programming
Play a lead role in driving new marketing strategies/tactics that increase the visibility, education and participation in recreation opportunities
Assist and work collaboratively with departmental cross divisional projects and programs to further the departmental and corporate goals and objectives
Responsible for ensuring that business units align with Council Strategic directions and the CK2035 strategic plan
Oversee the submission of grant opportunities
Develop, deliver and facilitate meetings, presentations, or public forums that will increase community engagement and build community capacity
Build, maintain and enhance innovative partnership opportunities
Develop and maintain positive relationships with community groups/organizations, vendors, contractors, all levels of government, service providers, private sector, not-for profits
Promote the programs through an active community relations campaign
Perform Occupation Health & Safety duties that align with the corporate policy mandates
Develop and enforce applicable legislation and regulations, corporate policies and procedures, as well as departmental procedures
Respond to inquiries and concerns from the public, council and community agencies with a focus on excellent customer service
Responsible for writing Reports to Council and required presentations
Chair of the Senior Advisory Committee
Essential qualifications
College diploma or university degree (preferably in recreation, business administration or related program), with four (4) to six (6) years of related experience
Supervisory experience, preferably in a municipal environment
Working knowledge of PerfectMind, FMW, JD Edwards (or other similar programs)
Other qualifications
Experience in aquatics or recreation program development, preferably in a municipal environment is an asset
Working knowledge of social media platforms is an asset
Certifications, memberships, licenses
Current Standard First Aid with CPR 'C' / willingness to train
Membership in related recreation organizations
Health & Safety Competency training is required within 6 months of hire date and will be maintained through refresher training once every 3 years
Work environment/hours of work
This position works mostly indoors
This position works weekdays with occasional evening and weekend hours
COVID-19 Vaccination
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent no longer requires a COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment. Although it is not mandatory to be vaccinated, it is highly encouraged.
Driver's licence/vehicle requirements
Because this position would be required to travel, a valid Province of Ontario driver's license with a reliable motor vehicle is necessary.
