This is a full-time position starting in September 2023.

The Position:


The Guidance Department at Havergal College oversees the academic, social-emotional development and university counselling for students of girls from Grades As a counsellor in this department, you will be mentoring and monitoring the wellbeing of students as you oversee the progress of each student throughout her Upper School years at Havergal, assisting her in developing agency to make knowledgeable and appropriate choices.

You will work with a collaborative and dynamic team of counsellors in supporting teachers as they develop strategies and approaches to meet the needs of a diverse group of students and learners.

You will share your expertise with parents and the broader community.


You will support all learners with diverse strategies and approaches and be willing to bring innovative solutions to challenges experienced by students.

Your programming will be engaging and dynamic; you enjoy what you do. Students find you to be approachable, available, knowledgeable, genuine and supportive.

This role reports directly to the Co-Directors of Guidance under the leadership of the Vice Principal of Student Life and Wellbeing, and is a member of the teaching faculty.

This role works collaboratively with other school administrators including the Head of Middle and/or Senior School.


Specific Accountabilities:


Mentoring and monitoring the wellbeing of students as you oversee the progress of each student throughout her Middle and Senior School years at Havergal, assisting her in developing agency to make knowledgeable and appropriate choices.

Providing academic, social/emotional and career counselling.


Support all learners with diverse strategies and approaches and be willing to bring innovative solutions to challenges experienced by students.

Demonstrate an approach to counselling that is reflective of the ways in which girls learn and develop.

Provide learning support to students in grades 7 and 8 with identified academic needs.


Collaborate with and support teachers regarding the social-emotional and academic needs of students and assist them to develop strategies and approaches to meet the needs of a diverse group of learners.


Work with a collaborative and dynamic team of other counsellors to develop best individual supports for students and support the school's wellbeing programs.

Build positive and trusting relationships with parents and caregivers.

Share expertise with parents and the broader community.

Be part of the school-based support team to provide and track student support.
