    Job Summary

    To carry out the functions that will assist the surgeon in performing safe surgical procedures with optimal results for the patient. The RNFA practices peri-operative nursing and is therefore responsible for independent nursing responsibilities of pre-operative assessment and post-operative evaluation. The RNFA work in a high-stress environment where they must think quickly and stay calm under pressure. They must also have excellent communication skills and be able to follow the surgeon's instructions and communicate clearly with other members of the surgical team. In addition, they must follow strict safety protocols to protect themselves and their patients.

    Skills & Abilities


    •Recent related experience as an RNFA preferred.

    •Advanced knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and operative technique related to the operative procedures in which the RNFA assists.

    •Ability to recognize safety hazards and initiate appropriate preventative and corrective action.

    •Demonstrated leadership skills that enhance team functioning in an emergency situation.

    •Experience with programme development, quality improvement initiatives and programme evaluation.

    •Proficiency in perioperative nursing practice, multidisciplinary leadership and education.

    •Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative practice model with mulita-disciplinary teams.

    •Demonstrated excellence in communication, both written and verbal

    •Demonstrated problem assessment skills

    •Demonstrated commitment to customer service and teamwork

    •Demonstrated individual leadership skills

    Qualifications


    •RN Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario

    •Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing Science or related field preferred

    •Graduate of a recognized RNFA Certificate program required

    •Certification in Perioperative Nursing - CPN (c) preferred

    •Current ACLS Certification

    As a condition of employment, you are required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination to the Hospital's Occupational Health and Safety department. Successful candidates will be required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination (two doses) from the Ontario Ministry of Health website or other authorized source directly to the Occupational Health and Safety department.
