The Data Analytics & Model Optimization team, as part of Global Compliance Trade Surveillance ("GCTS"), is a global, best-in-class program within Global Compliance responsible for performing surveillance of Scotiabank trading activities for market manipulation, insider trading and unfair pricing.

Reporting into the Director, Data Analytics & Model, the Manager is responsible for development and execution of the program in line with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.


Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Develop and maintain an inventory of trading scenarios which can be periodically tested in the models to gauge their effectiveness.
  • Conduct ongoing performance monitoring of the trade surveillance models and support model owner responsibilities as per the Bank's Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Policy.
  • Work closely with the OTC Trade Surveillance, Compliance technology and Model Validation teams as well as other stakeholders on trade surveillance model implementations, data governance and enhancements to maintain a bestinclass trade surveillance program.
  • Maintain deep knowledge & understanding of industry issues and practices, regulatory requirements and associated changes.
  • Ensure that the policies and procedures for the program reflect applicable requirements under the Enterprise-Wide Risk Management policy.
  • Assist on specific projects (e.g. special investigations, regulatory initiatives, process automation) while maintaining strong working relationships with the various stakeholders in each project.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in daytoday activities and decisions.
  • Motivate their team by fostering an inclusive work environment

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • College Diploma or University Degree in applicable field
  • At least 23 years' work experience in Banking and/or Capital Markets
- preferably in a role that has provided exposure to Over-The
  • Counter (OTC) Derivatives and Greeks.
  • Examples of relevant background include (but not limited to): Market Risk (VaR, Stress Testing), Trade Floor Risk, Middle Office & Model Risk.
  • Proficiency in languages such as Python. While formal training is not expected, experience gained on the job (through automation projects to enhance productivity, for example) will be ideal.
  • Experience in Business Intelligence tools such as Tableau.
  • Familiarity with various trading products including IR, FX, Equity, Commodity etc.
  • Industry certification or credentials will be an asset (e.g. CFA, FRM)
  • An enquiring mind, excellent judgment, strategic thinking skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a proven ability to develop and implement solutions to complex issues.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to rapidly changing regulatory and business environments.
  • Ability to work independently and with other staff across functional lines within the Bank.
